Title: Pitting or case foam on this R9
Post by: PhilZ on May 12, 2023, 09:01:03 AM
Is this pitting or foam from the case stuck to this R9 frame? This also looks like a high serial number Tribute.

The area between the grip and the trigger guard would perhaps not have been in contact with case foam?  The seller should clean the area before asking nearly $2K for that pistol IMO.

I agree with the cleaning part.  Seller addresses it in the description.

However, I do think a price of $1.2K (not $2K) is pretty reasonable for this offering.

I bought one from this seller last week.  Was a smooth deal.  I'll be watching this one also.   I bet it will clean up.

JMO...here in Florida, guns in safes out in a garage for instance, develop a huge amount of condensation if not properly cooled and/or dehumidified. I've seen guns here that look just like this that do not clean up, and I've seen those that did. it depends on the finish.

After checking with the seller it seems that it won't just clean off.  That's sad.

It didn't get a bid the first go round.  The seller didn't take my offer that left me room to refinish the gun.  I really just wanted the blue grips 🤣

I'd wait a few days, if no bids, make him another offer.  Soon you might find out where he really needs to be on it.  As a dealer he probably doesn't have an emotional attachment to it, which is a bonus for you.

Good Luck,

It's a dealer listing it but it's on consignment.

Those frames were anodized. This one appears to have corrosion from possibly sitting in a humid environment and not being wiped down with oils every so often. You really need to check any of your firearms stored in a safe once in a while and service them to keep them in top order. That is a shame as you wouldn't be able to get rid of those marks without some work bead blasting at a low pressure and back a few inches away, not right on the work, with very fine glass beads. As far as the pistol itself, those were the end of our run and there are not many made like that. The top of the barrel shows hardly any wear at all! It looks like maybe two or three magazines through this one. Nice gun overall.

Sorry to hear that, probably means a bit harder to get (as you are finding out).

Keep working the dealer, maybe he will convince the seller to let it go.

Best of luck to you.  Would like to see it go to someone who will take care of it properly.

I made my offer.  It's worth it to someone at asking price.....just not to me.

It got a bid so someone likes it as is!  Will make a great carry piece!
