« on: October 07, 2009, 08:50:40 PM »
I bought a lot of 124 grain since I can not find the 115 gold dot.  But Which is better for the R9s? ? better penetration on 124?

Which is better is what you can find; Tom at Irish Guard has been with 124 gr. from the get go--it works for him and many others.

One minor benefit of a lighter bullet is less recoil, other than that I think the speed vs the energy difference is a wash.

I am running Hornandy 115gr Critical Defense in mine. Seems to be a nice balance. Due to the advanced design of the bullet you do not need the extra weight.

I agree, Chief, and CD works well for me too, but some here haven't had similar positive experiences.

This is why I like the Gold Dot 124 gr round.  http://www.acbsystems.com/boards/thr/r9s-tests-03/basefile/expand2.htm

The reliable, consistant expansion.  I've captured a few rounds in water and had the exact same results you see in these pictures at the bottom.  But, I wouldn't hesitate to use 115 gr Gold Dots either.

I am an original advocate of Gold Dot also, but I would like to see CD included in a study like this; meanwhile, as long as it performs I will continue to carry CD.

Non- +P Gold dots are scarce in this area (Jacksonville,FL) . CD's are around. Corbons (DPX) seem to have alot of issues with the little pups. I had not seen with the other ammo.
