Title: When she knows what you like.........
Post by: MikeInTexas on August 26, 2018, 06:11:40 PM
Well the yearly occasion passed with little fanfare, just like I wanted it to.

However, herself did not forget me and passed this little gem on to me today.
(Unfortunately, she did not fare as well as I did this year with hers.)

Can't wait to get to the range next week and see how it shoots.

If you don't mind me asking, what holster do you use for it.

Well, I am south this week and plan on going to Texas City Municipal Gun Range either Wednesday or Thursday.  Let me know if you want to meet up there and get in some time behind it.

Ok, sounds good Mike, I'll PM you.

This is also an open invitation for any other forum members in the Houston area.  Post something if you would like to be a part of a range day.

This is a small, safe, clean, fairly basic city owned gun range with a friendly range staff.  55+ shoots for $3 a gun which makes it one of the cheapest I've seen.  While it's hot out there this time of year, you usually get a breeze off the bay which is only about 700 yards from the covered firing line.

My wife carries hers in an Askins Avenger style holster.

It’s stoked with Winchester 9mm 127 gr +P+, years ago it was her duty gun, but when the Dept. decided that they wanted to standardize on 9mm 147 gr sub sonic it was unreliable in the P7. The weapon really prefers hot loads.

Thank for the advice, I'll check out that holster.  I will stay away from the heavy loads, 124s probably going to be the heaviest then.  My plan is to shoot some Remington 115 grain practice loads in it to get used to how it runs.  After that I will probably run a magazine or two of Sigs 124 grain Elite V-Crowns through it, if all is good then I will load out with those (same as what the R9 is loaded with).

I have run a lot of rounds down the pipe of my P7 and it likes 124s the best. My best groupings came from Speer lawmans. Hollow points made no difference in the grouping.

Well it sure does shoot.  Got good groupings at 15 yards and chewed the center out of the target.

I like the lower bore axis, the squeeze cocking was no big deal to get used to.  No issues with stripping the magazine out of the bottom with the heel release and inserting a fresh one.  Squeezing the cocker to drop the slide is efficient.  It points nicely.  Did not get to try any double taps or rapid fire, will wait until I get some time in the woods for that.

Glad I also brought a SBR along to rotate between the rifle and pistol areas, as it needed to cool down every 4 magazines or so.   I now fully understand why later models have a heat shield above the trigger.

Very happy with the new pistol and it will soon become part of my daily carry options.

And the bore is TRUE polygonal rifling not what Glock tries to pass off as Polygonal.

One thing, you should NEVER fire lead projectiles out of it as they will deposit lead in the gas chamber eventually resulting in a difficult removal of the lead job.

Thanks PursuitSS, I will adhere to that advice.
