Title: Disassembly:I need help!
Post by: turkeyhunter on March 28, 2017, 07:36:07 PM
I have never taken either of my R9 apart so I decided to do so. I followed the factory  instructions to remove the slide pan. I had no problem  removing the pin,  taking it apart and putting it back together on the first gun.  On the second, I had no problem removing the pin but the slide will not slide off. What do I do? What is the problem? Thanks for your help.

Did you remove the mag on the second gun?

Have you ever fired the pistol?  Did the slide rack normally?  Was the pin intact?

Just a shot in the dark but I would reinsert the pin, rack the slide a few times, and start over. I have had problems in reassembly when I didn't have the pin in all the way and the slide would not move. Maybe Eric has some thoughts.

backupr9: I have not fired it. I believe it to be unfired except for factory rounds. I don't think it has ever been apart but I can't say any of this with absolute certainty. The slide does rack normally. The pin is intact. Does not look damaged. I don't think it has ever been out before.

Tracker: I will do that tonight, ie rack slide a few times and try again.

Thank you both for your help.

You Tube has some great videos on field stripping one.

Also, you may have a tight slide to frame fit--see my above post to Kevin regarding the use of 1200 grit silicone carbide valve lapping compound to improve the tight fit, if that is the case.

You are very welcome. I am not an engineer, either, but having been a pilot for 37 years sometimes it is just a matter of resetting a circuit breaker--so glad it worked for you.
