Supporting a Troop
« on: August 18, 2010, 03:51:45 PM »
Hey guys,

A friend of mine, Daniel Shaw, is an active duty Marine stationed in Okinawa.  He has had several tours in the sand box and is the real deal.  He has a podcast called "Gunfighter Cast."

He asked me about sending him a pair of new Vibram running shoes (KSO Treks) that he can't seem to get in Okinawa or on-line.  Its not for duty use -- for personal use to stay fit.

Anway, I found a pair locally for $125 and am going to ship them to him.  He offered to pay me, but I would rather not take it.  I would like to pick up the cost myself, but things are a little dry here these days.  I am willing to foot some of the cost to send these to a professional soldier.

Anyone else want to kick in a couple of bucks and make it a gift from the forum?  If so, let me know.

I think I will also scour the safe to see if there is anything else he might put to good use.

Thanks.

Thanks, KJT -- very generous of you.  I changed your forum status to Super Contributor and send you my thanks.

I can fund the difference now if necessary, but I have room for another modest contribution or two if people are so inclined.

Cool, way to go KJ.  I've often wondered what it took to change the forum status.

Heh!  There are no hard and fast guidelines.  Any type of monetary support gets a Contributor status.  Signficant or repeated support gets a Super Contributor status.   ;D

Thanks guys -- that is enough to get this done for Daniel.

I have the shoes on hold at the store and will drop them in the mail tomorrow, along with a few other things that may be helpful to him.

That took about an hour -- pretty cool.

I just got in from court and checked the Forum to see that I had missed this one. Count me in for the next such occasion.   8)

Thanks, guys.  I bet we could raise a small fortune around here for the right cause.  Gun people are good people.  Thanks to all.

I sprung this on Daniel, and here is part of his response...

Are you kidding me? Man I had to fight back tears reading the forum post, caught me completely off guard.  I don't even know what to say man. Thank you and to the Gentlemen on your Forum.

I guess that's one more firearm related forum I need to join.

Would you mind me mentioning this on my next show and telling my listeners about your forum and what you and its members did for me?

You may not think of this as a big deal Duane, but to me its huge for someone that doesn't even know me to take care of me like this is extraordinary.

Pretty cool, huh?  This guy puts his life on the line for our freedom and thinks we are doing him an unbelievable favor.

Thanks again, guys.  I will keep you posted.

What a humble servant.

My hat is off to the man.

What Daniel knows in his heart but needs to remember is that there those of us out here that WANT to do what we can to help our soldiers, especially a personal request.

And it would be an honor.

Duane:

Please extend to Daniel my gratitude for his service to our country. Also tell him that, while being an old Army type I should say "HOOAH," with his permission I'll just say "SEMPER FI."
