Title: Best Holster System for Driving?
Post by: sslater on October 05, 2005, 10:11:17 PM
I've been carrying my R9S in a Hedley pocket holster.  It's great for walking around, but not very good when driving.

Do any forum members know of a "skymarshall"-type crossdraw holster for the Rohrbaugh?  I think I'd prefer a paddle design for ease of stashing it when I leave the car.

I am quite certain that Kevin at K&D Holsters could make you one in leather or Dave Brown would make you one in kydex.

Hello Steve,

Yes, I too have had that problem, normally I carry my R9 in a front pocket inside a DeSantis Gunhide, or in my rear pocket in a Hedley leather.
I now carry it in a David Brown, Kydex paddle as the weather here has gotten cooler and I can wear a shirt or light jacket over it and still be well concealed, also I can switch from right hip to crossdraw while driving and it is easy to remove when necessary.

Ken Null makes a nice shoulder holster for the R9.  If I'm driving long distance, I wear cargo pants, and keep the R9 in  the cargo pocket -- I can still get to it while driving.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm going to order a KD kydex paddle rig, but in the meantime the R9 will ride in the thigh pocket of my cargo pants.
Why didn't I think of that? :-[

Right on!  I am not ashamed to admit, even in my 68th year of life, that I have learned more around here than I have contributed.

One other idea is one of my vehicle holsters?

David Brown made my Kydex paddle holster and mag holder.  He did a great job and was nice to deal with.  The holster is light in weight and strong.

David, is that attached to your dash by velcro?

Dave makes some very nice stuff.  Our only holster maker on the board that does kydex... at least sofar.

My newest Dave Brown kydex holster is on its way to me.  I love leather for sure, but plastic guns sometimes need plastic holsters.  ;)

I also have one of Dave's Kydex paddle holster for the R9. It is GREAT when driving or even under my T-Shirt at times. I've been using it quite frequently.
