R9 No. 132 at Eight Years
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:28:53 PM »
I took delivery of my R9 No. 132 in mid-May 2004. It has been my practice to pull it out of my pocket and photograph it each year on or about that anniversary. Here it is after eight years as my EDC. It is shown here with Hedley gunleather and the VZ grips that have become its usual "attire."

Richard,

It is great to see an original owner still with his rare Farmingdale and still posting on the Fourm! Congrats on 8 years.

Thank you, gentlemen.

I've been posting "anniversary" photos each year just to assure anyone contemplating the purchase of one of the R9s that these pistols are not only small and elegant but also tough and durable. With proper maintenance, they will outlast the owner. I like to consider mine as a functional work of art.

The gunleather by our late friend, R. J. Hedley, falls into the same category.

As for grips, I have a variety of them in various materials but have found the VZs to enhance control of the weapon while also being attractive and virtually impervious to wear. As a result, they are the grips I usually have mounted on the pistol.

In 2004, my opinion was that the R9 was the finest pocket pistol ever designed. I still hold that opinion in 2012.

Thank you Tom, Reinz, and DG!

Here are the "Dress Blue Sunday" grips for my R9, but because old ivory is so fragile I never have them installed at the range. I'm proud to own them, but they usually are stored in my gun safe.

Because my Farmingdale R9 is my 24/7 gun, I've settled lately on the VZ grips in "Hyena Brown" G10. Their rounded shape fills my hand well. Their color seems to go well with the early anodizing of the pistol. And the G10 is virtually impervious to hard use.

Congrats, RS, on the eight years of ownership with the #132.  I'm impressed each time I see it, and those ivory grips are outstanding.  Again, congrats and continue to enjoy that fine jewel.
