The LCR is now chambered for NRA's Golden Bullseye Award for "Ammo of the Year" for 2009:

Any thoughts on this calibre?  My wife has arthritis and can no longer fire her S&W 642 comfortably.  I have heard the 32 mag has considerably less recoil but effect on tissue is better than a .38.  I have never held or fired one.  Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

The following review is from Chuck Hawks which addresses the cartridge but not in the LCR. Having less recoil than a .357 magnum doesn't sound like a bargain for arthritic hands but apparently this revolver can also accommodate lighter .32 loads.

Thanks Tracker.  I'll do some more research on whether the 85 grain cartridge has a recoil in a light snubby similar to or, hopefully, less than a low-recoil .38.

Research resulted in this (below) and come other comments that the .327 is very snappy with loud muzzle blast, although none specified which weight bullets were used.  Note also that the pistol was an SP101 which is quite heavy, at least mine in .357 certainly is.

Don’t fall for the low recoil hype, it is pure BS.

The .327 Fed Mag is only slightly below a 125 Gr .357 and well over all 38 Special loads!

These were tests using 2 Ruger SP101’s, one in 357 the other in .327 Fed.

Recoil is based on Gun Weight, Bullet Weight, Powder Weight and Velocity… There is no room in the formula for Magic Wishes…

Now by dropping to the .32 H&R Mag or .32 S&W Long the recoil is about ˝. But think of the shock when you try a defense load!

By the way, I am starting to shop for the Charter Arms 4” target model of .327 Fed. Not a clue why, just because I can

I have never fired a 327 Federal, but I do have several 32 H&R Magnums and I like that round quite a bit.

I have a S&W 332 and recoil is still very manageable even in the 12 oz. revolver.

I do not think that either of these loads would be too stout in the Ruger.

I would love to see that caliber in a 10/22 Tactical rifle.

I have a 6" model 16 S&W chambered in 32 H&R magnum and it is one of my favorite guns.  It is the most accurate revolver I own and probably the most fun to shoot.

I called and emailed Smith requesting a model 16 or 616 in 327 Federal but nothing ever developed or ever will now.
