Title: Cleaning the magazines?

Does anyone disassemble and clean the magazines? If so, how oftern and what do you use? thanks!

I clean mags based on amount of use and type of use, a gun that I shoot often and carry when I'm in the fields or woods, is cleaned more often than my pocket carry SD weapon. I take mags apart and use Hoppe's #9 on a rag pushed into the mag using a small wooden dowel, dry it the same way and clean the spring, and Iwipe the spring with a very light coat of oil. I don't like a lot of oil as it attracts dirt and dust. Sometimes between cleanings I will use my air compressor and just blow out the mags and gun I pocket carry. John

I make it a practice to disassemble and clean the carry magazines each time I clean the pistol. With a pocket pistol such as the R9, I go through the cleaning process once each month, whether or not the pistol has been fired since the last cleaning, just to get rid of what I call "pocket dreck."
I've been called obsessive/compulsive for all of this, but I just respond: "I love the smell of Ballistol in the morning. Smells like . . . victory." ;)

It shore does; love those skyhawks. Some used to call them "tinks", short for tinker toys. Where did you find that photo?

Remembering that you used to fly those birds off of carriers, I just Googled "A-4 Skyhawk" and found this link:

As one who used to be proud just to get a Cessna 150 down in one piece on a mile-long runway in broad daylight, I stand in awe of you Navy carrier pilots making night landings in heavy weather at sea.
(I think I'll go clean my R9 and its magazine. ;) )

Thanks, Richard; those two A-4s were A-4Cs attached to VA-146, The Blue Diamonds of Carrier Air Wing 14. Notice the funny designs on the two drop tanks below the wing-- those are blue diamonds. The Carrier in the background is The U.S.S. Kearsarge, a CVS, not a CVA, that would normally be associated with attack aircraft but it is a great shot and thanks for forwarding it.
