How many carry at anti-gun office?

Been lurking here for a few weeks. Felt I needed to join since I will be an official R-9s owner TOMORROW!!!! I am tracking gun from dealer in Ogden Utah and it is scheduled to arrive here in morning. I own a number of nice carry guns and others, but this gun looks perfect for what I need....imminently carryable but powerful enough to feel confident if have to use it.    I work in an office where carry would be frowned on big time.  However, since I have to park a few blocks away and often walk to car after dark in not particularly good area, I have chosen to carry discreetly in spite of office policy. I currently carry a S&W 340 in .357 with Crimson Trace grips.  This is a powerful and light weapon but I notice when I carry in front pocket that sometimes it prints, and, worse, othertimes the butt sticks out of my pocket if I'm sitting wrong and not paying attention. I also have a Seecamp .32 and love the way it carries but just not confident in that caliber. So, I am hopeful R9 will offer best of both worlds!  Will post my thoughts tomorrow evening for anyone else lurking like I was. Meanwhile, anyone else carry at work in spite of policy disallowing same? I have a feeling there is a lot more of this than most people think.

Hi Jim,

When did you order from Impact Guns?  Mine will be in transit for a week.  I just got notice that it shipped today.

I ordered yesterday but paid for overnight shipping. My tracking form says scheduled for delivery tomorrow so I assume it will make it.

Overnight shipping is typically $25.  Impact is a little more, $24 for ground $44 for 2-3 day $57 for 1-2 day.  They do have the best price @$895 with no sales tax and you have the added security of being able to pay with credit card at no extra charge + 1% cash back for me lol.  Oh don't forget about the $25 transfer fee, which is a gift in Philly, many charge an a** raping $50.  Makes me wish I lived near one of those back woods shops that charge $7.50

My dad an I both work at hospitals (he carries a 340PD with crimson trace laser grips too) and can't carry due to regulations.  For me I can't easily carry wearing scrubs anyway.  I surely carried everyday to class when I went to school in north Philly which I'm sure would have gotten me the boot had I been discovered.

Mine is in transit from Impact as well, but from Utah to Kentucky...plus had to send them local FFL license.

I agree with your decision to carry despite work policy.  Weapons are not permitted on my college campus, but that never stopped the perps from using them in robberies or other crime around campus!

I worked for a place (retail store)with a company policy of no guns for employees, but if you are a customer, no problem. They trusted strangers more than their employees who the had background checks done.

For 12 years, I carried there. First with a NAA 22 and then the Keltec 32. You can carry those in a bathing suit without printing. For the last year I had to stop, when they installed metal detectors for employees leaving the store. Their rationale was that most thefts to a store were from employees.

My place of work forbids firearms on site and in the building.  It is grounds for immediate termination if found in your possession.  As much as I'd like to carry at all times, the chance of being found out and losing my job is a pretty good deterrent.  I do go as far as bringing it on-site, but it stays in the car while I'm at work.

It really - really, saddens me - this no carry policy ..... tho - Ok - I know it is usually explained away as an insurance thing.

But as Shelby said ... heck, why should only a BG be able to waltz into a workplace armed and those at work be defenceless ...... it does NOT make sense.  Even if BG carry was prevented by metal detectors, what is to say a perp might not wait to pounce on folks in parking lot - as they go to get or leave their cars.

I am lucky .. very lucky.  Work for self (at times, when I must! ;D ) .... and carry 25/7 .... well 16/7 more precise.  All around home, always when out ... it is part of dress.  I have a thing about divesting myself of it - one reason I dread a trip down to MD in particular.

If I was under the constraint of no carry at work - I would .. and only a metal detector would prevent that.

Are you sure that you don't have to pay sales tax?  In Nevada the local FFL is required to collect sales tax.

I live in Wisconsin and we haven't been able to get a CCW permit law past some "cradle-to-grave" socialists in the state legislature. I'm currently unemployed, but my last employer (owner of a local Internet Service Provider) had a Class 3 mfg. license for another business he owned, and a Dillon 9mm loader in his office (I guess it cuts down on backtalk from pushy cold-call sales people if you start idly running your fingers through the spent primers).

Since several states have had permit laws for years, I am wondering if the permit laws (plus the thread of lawsuits) changed insurance company / employer policies. The rational in "no-carry" states is that employers and their insurers are just echoing state law - you aren't supposed to be armed. If a state has a ccw permit law but the employer won't permit guns at work, than if someone with a permit is injured or killed, shouldn't they be able to sue the employer for denying them self-defense rights granted by the state?

I would like to know if anyone has heard of an employee/estate suing an employer in a right-to-carry state for depriving the employee of self-protection means which might have prevented or mitigated an attack or death?

If Wisconsin gets the CCW law or if I move to a state that has permits, that would certainly be on my list of things to check with a local attorney, and an argument to present to any anti-gun employer I might be working for.

In Michigan the law permits an employer to restrict the right of the employee to carry in the workplace.
