Recommended Ammo
« on: February 26, 2022, 08:11:22 PM »
I have had my R9 for a number of years and carry it occasionally. In my experience Winchester Silvertips 115 were the most reliable and accurate ammo. It was unavailable for a couple of years by lately I have found a few boxes. What bullet do those wiser than I recommend? What bullets should be avoided?

Just saw you never got a reply, sorry for that.

I and it seems a lot of other folks on here like the 115 or 124gr Gold Dots.

Of course make sure you test them before using them in a carry gun.

There are a number of threads on here about ammo.  Some are a good read.

Good Luck,

Both of my R9s shoot Speer Gold Dots and, other than differences in perceived recoil, manifest no real difference when 115, 124 and 147 are used.  Speer Lawman is a FMJ 9mm round that mimics the shooting character of the Gold Dot, but is less expensive and therefor has become my practice round.

The main reservation about using a 147 gr. in a 2.9 inch barrel is that the velocity is less than a 115 gr or 124 gr; thus not providing as much penetration and expansion. Eric initially recommended 115 gr Silvertips.

I now carry Gold Dot 124 JHP when I have my pup with me.

Cheers!
