steve: from what i'm reading here, the flatten primers are not as unusual as i thought. and they may, or may not, be caused by either the cartridge and/or by my particular barrel.

one of the things i checked after reading these posts was to remove my barrel, drop a quality round in it (Fed 9BP) and checked to see if the back of the rim was equal height to the top of the barrel extension. its perfect, apparently meaning that the chamber seems to be correctly sized.

but the end result is that if i can find a high quality defense round that is reliable, effective and accurate enough in my rohrbaugh, everything else is secondary.

at least that's my thinking as of today...
