Title: New Kel-Tec bullpup
Post by: birdman on November 23, 2011, 11:21:19 AM
I pre-ordered a Kel-Tec KSG last night. I'm not sure when it will ship, guess I'll know when it gets here. I think, and hope, that it's going to be a great gun. At least if I can't hit anything with it the dammed thing should scare them to death! I really do like the looks of this gun. I emailed Kel-Tec for an approximate shipping date. They wrote back that they would reply to my email in three days. That still seems odd to me. I'll keep you posted if I get any news.       Gene

It sure looks like a fun gun.  I was thinking about it pretty hard and then I realized how close your face/eyes/head are to the combustion chamber with this bullpup configuration.  It gave me the willies after seeing the out of battery blow ups with the PMR-30s.

Very interesting, Gene.  I saw this a couple days ago, and thought, hmmmmmm!    :)

Ljutic, like you, I've thought long and hard about a twelve gauge going off next to my face. Kel-Tec says that they have eliminated the danger by installing a 1/16 inch stainless steel plate between your face and the firing chamber, they also state that any pressure would be directed downward. Maybe I'll just shoot from the hip.... It works in the movies ;D        Gene

Gene.  This is where I saw the Bullpup; says availability unknown;  can order it, just don't know when delivery will be made.  I like it, too!    :)

Looks like the three days are up! I just got an email from a lady named Erica at Kel-Tec. She said that while they were hoping to get some guns shipped before this year was up "that it looks like it will be after new years before they get going good" I have no way of knowing how many pre-orders there are ahead of me. She should have just told me that the gun will get there when it gets there so shut up and wait!     KJ, I paid $655.99 at TSG.COM   PS Forgot to add, free shipping

Thanks for the info KJ. This really was'nt as spur-of-the-moment as it sounds. I read everything that I could find about the gun on the internet, from GunsAmerica to Wikipedia, and I've been thinking about getting one since I first read about it here on our forum. My daughter and granddaughter are home for Thanksgiving, so I'll be busy for the next two weeks. If the Boberg and the KSG both get here I'll have a busy winter. So, everyone have a very Happy Thanksgiving.      Gene

Our Russian commando may need some AA-12 hearing aids in the future.

I know that's it's just a holdover from growing up in the cold war era, but the sight of a russian firing a full-auto anything toward me makes my right index finger itch. I have sometimes forgotten the faces and names of friends from my youth but you never seem to forget an enemy.       Gene

John, you guys on the Forum will be the first to hear when (and if) I get any news. When Erika from KelTec emailed me she said they "were trying get some guns shipped before the first of the year, and hoped to start shipping after the first." Reading the letter again, a while later I decided that it was the most ambiguous thing I'd ever read. She really did'nt say anything. Maybe She has a future in politics.         Gene

Sorta like, too, telling you what you want to hear, in round about way, and leaving a little, to your imagination.  The first of the year will be here soon, so not to worry.   :)

Sent an email to the elusive Erika, I was inquiring about the sights shown on all the pictures I've seen of the gun. I wanted to know if they were standard equipment or an after market item. She did'nt hesitate a minute, she looked me right in the eye (figuritivley speaking) and said that she did'nt know. They had'nt given her a list. What was it that Harry Truman said, (the buck pauses here)?    Gene

The Dec. issue of "Gun World" clearly states that the KSG does not now come issued with standard sights. The author said that he preferred the Trijicon RX-34 4.5 MOA amber dot reflex sight. However, the small photo on the cover shows it with fixed sights which, presumably, will be available from the factory. The KEL-TEC  project engineer, Ryan Williams, said that they are making their own version of flip-up sights.

Just received an email from TSG.com, the company that I ordered the KSG from. It was entitled, "update on your order". I was overjoyed. I thought for sure that they were going to tell me when I was to get the gun. The letter was an EXACT copy of the other two letters I'd received claiming to be "updates". That sucks! Back to waiting, I'm getting better at it, but I still don't like it.     Gene

Dang Gene when I started reading and you said you received an email I was expecting to hear it was on the way. >:( :( That does suck.

Had another "update" from TSG.com when I got up, the only difference it and the last two was the date, other than that they were exactly the same. I really don't know why they bother. I thought that I would wait til after New Years and call them, maybe I could pin them down a little. I think that I'll tell them that every time they send me one of those worthless "updates" that I'll call. If they can waste my time I'll waste theirs. >:(  Enough bitching, everyone have a Happy New Year!       Gene

Ryan, if or when I get the I will be happy to spread the word. Altho I've never seen or touched the gun I've been interested in it since the first pictures Kel-Tec released. Too snowy to go outside shooting anyway.        Gene

Just got this.

Ok, ok, so you are frustrated about not being able to get Kel-Tec guns. They hear you, and Kel-Tec has just opened a new wing of manufacturing to get more of their great guns out to all of us as soon as they can. We have delayed even doing an article on the PMR-30 ourselves (yes we have one) because we have heard that people who want them already can't get them and we didn't want to create more demand.

You HAVE TO GIVE KEL-TEC CREDIT for holding the KSG this year until they fixed some things that early reviewers noticed. Watch the video to find out what they were (heh heh heh). Don't worry, the Kel-Tec Shotgun (KSG) is still a 14 round bullpup 12 gauge shotgun with two tubes and a selector switch, with bottom eject. They just ironed out some bugs with it over the last year. Also check out the new 24" RFB, tricked out with rails all made by Kel-Tec, and it takes metric FAL mags, so it is everything you could want in a .308 battle rifle. Kel-Tec has got to get everyone's vote for the coolest and gutsiest gunmaker ever. Now lets hope we can get some guns this year!

Nothing from Kel-Tec in over a month. I'm beginning to doubt that the gun even exists. Not really, but it is getting frustrating. Have any of you heard any news, rumors, lies, anything at all? If I hear anything I'll be sure to let you know. At least it isn't costing anything while I'm waiting.     Gene

Looks like Erika didn't make her deadline of 1 Jan. There must be someone there who knows whether they are going out the door or not.

After not hearing anything from them in over a month I finally got fed up and wrote a semi nasty email to the site that I ordered from. (tsg.com) It'll be four months tomorrow since I placed the order and all I've gotten from them is monthly BS form letters that don't really say anything. I told them that if I hadn't heard some REAL information from them that I was going to cancel my order. This was two days ago and I haven't heard any thing back. I'll let you guys know if I get any news.          Gene

I was at a local (to me) gun store, they have the KSG in stock, so I asked how much.

$2,400.00 was the answer! So I asked, isn't MSRP like half that or even less?
He said no, he thought MSRP was about what they have it listed for.

So, are these being delivered? What is the MSRP?
He believes they are the only store in the area of gun stores that has one.

Its been a while since I looked into these but I don't think msrp would have changed since then.  Msrp should be 699 or very close to that, within a hundred bucks.  People are a little crazy,  its a keltec,  a really cool idea but keltec nevertheless, not to mention its their first shotgun design.  Ill pay 700 for one but not a penny more.  Same thing with the kimber solo,  these aren't discontinued guns that will never be had again,  these are new productions. ???

Thanks for the replies guys.
I've asked on the Seecamp forum also and it sure seems like the local gun store is WAY off.
I would like this shotgun for $600 or even less, not four times that!

Chameleon, when I backordered the gun (from TSG.com) they charged me $655.99 to be paid when the gun shipped. Of course it wouldn't matter what the price is if the gun  never ships.       Gene
