Home-made portable target stand
« on: August 28, 2005, 12:29:59 AM »
I getting ready to build this simple target stand to test an AR-15 and Eotech scope.  It looks pretty simple.

http://www.castbullet.com/makeit/frame.htm

I'm going to sight the rifle for 50 yards, and hope that will be OK for using between 50 and 200 yards.

Cardboard boxes are a little hard to find, so we'll have to substitute some kind of stiff paper from Wal-Mart or Staples.

Does anyone have any other ideas about home-made stands?

Bill:

If you have your own land on which to shoot, an old shipping pallet can serve as a good target stand.  Just drag the thing into place, stand it on edge, brace it from behind with some scrap lumber, tack on your target(s), and you're good to go.  Depending on how much lead it absorbs, the pallet should last quite a while.

That's a fine idea, Richard.

Our place in northern Michigan is over 300 feet long, but we have neighbors on both sides, so it wouldn't be possible.

The good news is there's a national forest nearby, with an informal shooting place, that is just right.

That's why I was thinking of a portable stand.  I'm tempted to leave it for the pleasure of others, but there's some concern that a bad person would take it home.

Do you have any thoughts about a good sighting distance for zeroing in a scope, which is 1x power?

Good idea, RJ.  We just happen to know a woman who just started a furniture store.

I've been very careful about  cleanup.  We are fortunate to have an excellent setting, so we don't want to annoy the ranger.

Michi,
That is a great portable, inexpensive target stand!! :)

I am lucky enogh to be able to walk out my front door and shoot if I wish, and I still want a portable to use!!

I do have a permanent 100 yd. stand but for the closer this would work great!!

What I was wondering is-does anyone have links to different stands that can be made?

Can never have enough I say!! ;D 8)

I thank you Bill for the info!!!

You are very welcome, Brendan.

I'm going to put one together for Labor Day.

It looked simple enough to make.

I was thinking of putting hinges on the two vertical  pieces, so it would be easier to transport.
