Title: Henry "Mare's Leg"
Post by: Richard S on May 28, 2016, 01:38:33 PM
I stopped by my FFL's shop the other day intending merely to have some coffee and conversation.  Then I saw this thing chambered for .357 Magnum hanging on the wall behind the counter and it seemed to be calling my name.

Did I need it?

Lord, no!

Did I want it?

Lord, yes! (I've wanted one ever since seeing the Steve McQueen TV series, "Wanted, Dead or Alive," years ago.)

Did I buy it?

Absolutely! 8)

   Nice!
 And how does it shoot?

It's no "sniper rifle," of course, but as the expression goes "It's a real hoot to shoot." And the lever action is as smooth as silk.

I think KJ bought a cheaper version of the Mare's Leg. It looks like an excellent close quarters neighborhood controller.

It certainly feels well balanced and comes readily to hand. There is even a belted scabbard/holster for it that I have ordered. Watch this space.

A Henry beats a Rossi any day.

My thoughts exactly!

Just one note of caution; don't try the loaded flip cock trick like Steve McQueen.

Agreed. "A man's got to know his limitations."

Well Richard and Tracker, does that mean that neither is willing to juggle running chain saws either?

Carrier landings at night was as close as I came to juggling running chain saws.

Now that's a really neat "Toy" Richard!  Have fun with it and be safe. ;-)

Juggling chain saws? Interesting, but I only own one. To get started I'll need to get two more.  (I trust that it's best to start practice with the things not running.  ;))

Juggling chain saws is a damn sight safer than a night carrier landing.  Kudos trapper!

Thank you, John; as with most things it does become somewhat easier with practice. A pitching deck doesn't help much, either.

Richard,
If you need to reach out across the ridge here is a ridge runner that will take out most anything in the holler in Critter Creek or any other creek.

If you want over 1 1/2 times the power of that popgun, with faster and heaver bullets choices, and as a bonus an easy to acquire sidearm chambered in the same caliber I would suggest something like this...................

That lever action cannon may be more appropriate for West Texas rancher wetback control rather than eastern Tennessee ridge running short range.

That Taylor's Ridge Runner .45-70 is really tempting.  As for the Big Horn .500 .... Wow!  However, I've had my right shoulder repaired twice for a torn rotator cuff.  I suspect that only my orthopedic surgeon would recommend that I get one of those.   ;)
