O.K. I'm only 42   years older than packin_heat.   ;D
Glad to see there's this splendid mix of young enthusiasm and
mature experience in this group.

I agree -- it is a good mix of like-minded individuals.  We have a nice range of experience here.

Upon first blush, I think my theory is holding up.  I don't doubt that I have a pretty good life.  I went to school for a long time and now I am starting to reap the rewards -- some of which is being able to spend some money on my "hobby" -- at least the limited amounts I can slip by my wife.   ;D  Believe me, buying the R-9 required some fancy dancing and distraction techniques!

54 and growing (unfortunately)!  The growing that is not the aging.  I hope to keep aging.

shooterjb I hear you.  When I was in my mid twenties I had to sell a German PPK in order to put heating oil in the tank during an extremely cold NW winter.  Loved the gun but loved my kids more.  I never regretted doing it but always missed the gun.  Years later I bought an Interarms PPKS but it was not the same.  Been in the safe untouched for about 12 years now.

Hi Murray,

My West German PPK/S is still in the safe, but I know what you are talking about. To hear my wife tell it, I took food out of her mouth for 30 years to afford the guns I bought. The sad part is that if I were to pass away tomorrow, she would probably sell them for pennies on the dollar. Fortunately she doesn't have the combination to that safe.

I must bow to RJ as I am a mear 64.

But as Ray Chesney says in the title song of his last CD -"any day above ground is a good day".

Lamenting some of those that were sold long ago and far away to help pay for the attorney to shed myself of the "x", Gold Cup 38, Smith 41, Smith 22 Jet 8 3/8" and a couple of others. Brings a tear to the eye but I was fortunate enough to find a better deal and worth every penny!

Hi Chris,

I should have been more specific. I am fond of saying that I don't have a "wife" but I have been blessed with a Honey for over 26 years.

Picked up a few firearms in those years as well.

And thanks for the welcome!

Hey there all.  Gen X'r here who likes to justify expensive toys/gadgets when I can at least rationalize their daily utility.  I'd rather spend $900 on a pocket gun than a wrist watch anyway.  And I never buy anything I can't sell at a resonable return.  Besides I will be selling a safe-queen P7M8 to fund this purchase.

Just turned 40 a couple weeks ago.  Picked the R9 as a birthday present for myself.  But it didn't get here in time, so also picked up a SIG P226 Navy limited edition as an additional present. :)

OK, I'll confess.  I'm 67.  In the words of Mickey Mantle, "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I would've taken better care of myself."  Still and all, I'm still wringing the most I can out of the parts I still possess.

It seems every reply I post, I'm a few days behind but I'll catch up with you young fellows eventually... ;D
I'll be 34 in Sept. In my case, I'm single and enjoy the financial freedom that comes with that. If and when a wife and kids come along, then I'll be more mature finacially with no regrets but until then, I'll continue acting like the "big-kid" I am at heart.
