Thought I would see if anyone on the forum was interested before I sell this knife by other means.
Drop point hand forged hunting knife my Master Smith knife maker Roger Massey. Mint - never used.
Four inch drop point blade hand forged from 52100 ball bearing steel. Hair shaving sharp - will hold an edge for a long time.
Premium stag slabs with hidden tag.

That is one very handsome knife Dave - wish I could go for it but - cannot justify it. I am still after a folder by Kershaw - the ''BOA" tho I do have a Buck Mayo TNT.
My main fixed blade - sorta hunting knife does what I need tho compared to that work of art is downright fugly!! :D It is not in the same league of course - cost IIRC equivalent of $50 back in 1968!! So I guess not actually cheap as such.
It has weight at the end so no way a stabbing blade - this is a slassher/chopper and the serrations get thrubone like nothing on earth.

That's a very nice knife. The price is very fair. Stag of that quality is very hard to find these days. 52100 is a great using steel if you don't mind a carbon steel blade.
I believe that the handle is of mortise construction-not the typical slab construction, which would leave the edges of the tang exposed to the elements. Since 52100 is a carbon steel, having the tang fully enclosed by the handle will protect the tang from the elements.
Chris, I carried a Puma White Hunter in Viet Nam. It was made of carbon steel and was always rusting. I gave it to someone who was headed to the boonies right before I left. Kind of wish I had kept it.

Dick, the person you gave the knife to most likely really needed it. It may have saved his life. Look at it that way.

Dick, also it looks to me that the tang is nickel silver not carbon steel.

The guard is nickel silver. You cannot see the tang because it is enclosed in the stag.

Feel free to talk about knives on this thread.
52100 is a tool steel and very tough. I know one knife maker, PJ Tomes, who uses his pocket knife with 52100 steel to open cans without damaging the knife in demonstrations. This knife for sell is treated with Renaissance wax. Using a product like this ,or a drop of oil, or just wiping the blade after use will keep the blade shiny for its life - which will be longer than its owner.
I had a 52100 pocket knife that no special continuous care like above was done to the blade, except wiping it when it got wet, and it just turned a nice patina like my dads 35 year old pocket knife. Never showed any rust. Gave it to a friend,
At the same time I had a pocket knife with an ATS 34 top grade stainless blade rust.

I can add some provenance to the knife, since I'm the original
owner. I purchased it from Roger himself at the Blade Show.
He later won the Best Forged Hunter award at The Blade Show for
a nearly identical knife. If you look at the pix Dave sent us, you'll
see my handwriting on the description tag;^)
52100 is my favorite non-stainless steel ever! I carry a Bailey Bradshaw Wharncliff folder (just a small little gents knife) and it's of forged 52100 and it's an amazing knife and an amazing steel. Patina is what happens to it if it's heat treated correctly. it's pleasing to the eye. The knife is indeed mortise tang and a nickel silver guard. Really fine hand rubbed finish. (Imagine sitting for hours hand rubbing a knife. BORING!)
Roger Massey is an amazing ABS Mastersmith, sort of a Mastersmith's
Mastersmith. And he has a beautiful wife;^P Not that that matters;^)
Another amazing fact about the ABS is that they just broke the 100 member barrier. Think about it. In all the world, there are just a shade over 100 ABS Mastersmiths! They are good people, and when I die, I just may have a scholarship to their school in Arkansas named after me. Or not. I can't decide;^)
