WTT: Need new S&W 642, will trade pistols (MI)
« on: November 14, 2005, 08:41:39 PM »
Will trade for new S&W 642.

Bersa .380 nickel-plated pistol, and Browning Buck Mark Camper .22, both almost brand new. Bersa round count is 26, and Buck Mark count is 50.

Also included is Red Dot scope for Buck Mark, and  high-quality Weigand Combat weaver rail for Buck Mark.

Bill,
Have you seen Teddy's take on the new S&W's?

tracker, I was just thinking about that.  He probably is not too impressed with the current quality.

I'll go back and review his reviews.  Thanks for the reminder.

Generally, the 642 is often favored on the forums, maybe because of the low price and light weight.

You know, there is still a place for the revolver.  There is a rather good chance that it will fire when needed.

On the subject of S&W revolvers, he said:  "There is not one revolver that I would buy in their current line.".

He would buy a Ruger.  I'm just concerned about it being heavy.

I'd love to trade but....I already have those...  If you do get one, I recommend a Hogue Gripster grip -- really makes the gun pleasant to shoot.

Thanks, Brad.  That grip sounds like a fine idea.

IMHO, the concerns about S&Ws new products is misplaced.  I own 4 Smiths and like them all, and all are current production models.

Thanks, Duane.  I'm going to get one.  The price and weight are just right.

The biggest problem will be choosing between the hammer showing, or not showing.

All my target shooting was with the hammer pulled back.  But then, who wants to have it snag on your clothes?

Decisions...Decisions...

I prefer the Centennial-type frame with no exposed hammer -- like the 642.  The hammer is not good for a pocket gun if you intend to carry that way.

I am not sure how realistic is the need for a single action trigger on a defensive snub.  You can learn to "stage" the DA trigger and come close to the same type of pull.  I used a Ruger SP snub for a three day class shooting at a wide variety of distances and only used the SA mode for a 50 yard and 100 yard shot.

If you really think you want SA capability, go with the Bodyguard style frame which conceals and shrouds the hammer but retains SA capability.   Unfortunately, you are gonig to have to pay more for that -- S&W has their best price point on the 642 models.

Bill,
The 642 is a good choice IMO..

Just bought one for my wife for concealed carry-she has always been a revolver person..

Not had the chance to shoot as yet but you cannot beat the price on these right now!! ;)
got mine from my "downstate" dealer friend John.. 8)

Wish you well in your trade..

That Bersa .380 is such a terrific, reliable pistol, maybe I should keep it, and buy a S&W 642.

We could go without eating one day each week.

I've got a NIB 642 that I might be willing to part with (sell) -- wish we were closer, so a FTF deal could be done to minimize costs....

Anyway, let me know if you haven't located one.  I'll be taking it to the local gunshow this weekend as part of my trading stock.
I'm not a gun expert -- but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Thanks, flyandscuba.  I'm still debating about trying to sell the pistols, and use the proceeds to get the 642.

Thanks again for mentioning it.
