This was in today's Atlanta Journal Constitution.
It is quoted in it's entirety and it speaks for itself...

California May Require Pistol ID's
Hoping to find shooting suspects more quickly, California may become the first state to require semiautomatic poistols to stamp their make, model and serial number onto every cartridge they fire. Proposed legislation would require semiautomatic models produced after January 2007 to carry the microstamping techniology by which serial numbers are laser-etched onto a guns firing pin, which then transmits them to the bullet casing when the trigger is pulled. Critics claim the bill would raise the price of handguns without having much practical effect, because criminals would simply buy old guns, replace the firing pins or alter firing pins to erase indentifying markers. Maybe they could apply the same technology to
vehicle bumpers so they could track down hit-and-run
and DWI drivers.

Maybe"I'll be back" will bring some common sense back to the state of California. Tom

I shudder to think how they plan to handle sexual assault cases . . . . . :o

Can you image the mess this will cause at shooting ranges where everybody will be looking for shells afraid to leave even one behind in case it got "planted' at a crime scene.
