STI Lawman
« on: September 18, 2012, 08:19:40 PM »
I picked up my new Hard Chrome Lawman 3.0 today and I'm very pleased with it. I put about twenty rounds of 230gr ball ammo through it and it functions as good as it looks.
For those not familiar with STI it is an Employee owned company and there guns are backed with a Lifetime Warranty, there customer service is some of the best in the industry.

I'm in LOve! or in LUst!  I dunno,  ???  but I do know I WANT one!

I have a few STI carry guns, and love'em.  Mine have lowrider front sights which I wish were taller.  Yours look low as well, or is that just the photo?

Enjoy, John!

Nice looking piece John.  I'm unfamiliar with the STI...how does it compare with the Kimber Ultra CDPII?

I had a Kimber Ultra CDP for a couple of years and liked it but I think the STI is a better quality gun. They have a pretty extensive line of guns and also make 2011s which are double stack mags. There are a lot of competition shooters using the 2011s.

John:

You have scored a real prize this time. I don't really need an STI at this time, but I would really like to own one, and that Lawman of yours appears to be just about as good as it gets.

Congrats.  Some guns just look awesome in chrome.

I'd post a picture of my STI Shadow, but it's just and ugly old black gun.  Have to agree that STI service is great.  They will do whatever you ask to make you happy.   ;D

I have both.  The STI is a step above.  The slide feels like it's moving on wet ice, just the smoothest ever.

and I would think no MIM parts on the STI, unlike the Kimber. Also, for whatever it is worth the "T" in STI stood for Tripp before the split and reorganization. It is gratifying to see the quality is still there in spades.

Here is how I know about STI's customer service.
The Lawman is my second STI, a few weeks ago I purchased one of the STI Escorts in 9mm because I wanted a 1911 that was more affordable to shoot than the 45.
I went my usual FFL and the shop was quite busy (Mostly a Pawn shop but they do gun transfers) so they just handed me the forms and I filled them out and all the paperwork was done before they brought the gun out to me.
When they brought it out and I opened the case the mag was laying there with the gun and the slide (black slide) had several scratches all the way through the finish. I got home with it and called the dealer I purchased it from (off the internet) and he tells me because I took it there is nothing he can do because it is a used gun after I filled out the forms and I will need to contact STI customer service.
When I got home I called STI's CS dept and explained what had happened and they wanted to see some pictures which I provided and the next day they said they would redo the slide for free and would email me a prepaid return shipping label which I thought was awesome. Then I had the idea of getting the slide Hard Chromed so I called David in CS and hit him with the idea which he said they would do but I would need to cover the difference because they have Hard Chrome done out of house, my total cost $100, then I decided I would like the controls which are black finished also so I ask how much this would add to the cost and he says send them along and we'll have them done, no charge.  :o :o

Non of the problem was there fault, the place I bought it from took the gun out of the sealed plastic bag and removed the mag from the gun and shipped it that way but STI stood behind there product just to have a happy customer and it worked. ;D

I should have it back in about a week and will post pictures.

That story speaks volumes of STI - and of that irresponsible Dealer as well.

Great story.  Really makes me want to get a firearm from them.  I'll be on the lookout.  Great looking pistol!

Similar story from me.  I had ejection issues with mine and it beat the finish off the ejection port.  While it was back for the ejector upgrade, I asked them to refinish the slide back to new. Done.  No questions asked.  Gun runs like a champ now.
