Title: SHOT Show 2019
Post by: DDGator on January 22, 2019, 11:03:31 AM
Well, I am here again...  In the Press Room, waiting for the show doors to open.

I really miss the days of running downstairs to the Rohrbaugh Booth at 8:30am and then rushing back here to post pictures and update everyone on the latest Rohrbaugh news.

My role at SHOT has changed now.  I used to report on the show itself, so I had to spend two days covering the entire show floor.  Now my writing is mostly assignment based, so I am here to see people rather than guns.  Don't worry though -- I'll see lots of guns in my travels.

If you have any specific questions, I will try to answer them if I can.  I have just one day here to get it all done, but I was at the Media Day at Boulder City Rifle and Pistol Club yesterday.

More info later...

-Duane

I would be interested in reading your reporting.  So if you can post up links to your articles I would appreciate it.

Have fun.

I used to look forward to the SHOT Show.

It seems like the last 5 years it has been mostly "The AR Show".

In your travels there at the Shot Show  Duane,if you go by the Benelli display tell them one of the Rohrbaugh Forum members  is angry.Number one, they dropped producing the R1 in 300WSM.and two,not much warning of the move when they did decide to do it.I found one gun part store that I could order mags for it,Price $22 higher than they were.LOL

Thank you Phil. Benelli is still producing the 300 mag, just not the short mag. What they discontinued were the 270 short and 300 short.
Neither not a real popular round, which is also reflected in the price of the ammo.
That's just the way it is when one chooses a certain caliber over another. If I was smart I would have stuck to a thirty odd six with all my long guns.

Thanks Duane for doing what you doing. More specifically, I would be interested to hear if Sig is indeed going to offer the P365 with an external safety. Thanks again.

Yes, it was on display at the show.  I could have shot one on Media Day, but the line was too long and the wind was too cold.

It’s a nice pistol.  It’s funny how it doesn’t look like a Glock to me because of the silver-toned finish on the slide.  The same grip frame is used for the new Model 48.

Yes, I handled one at the show.  Typical Sig thumb safety.

Thanks Duane. I am now in the market for one.

New video from TFB out about the Mossberg MC1.

If you are interested in the G43, you might want to take a look at it.

I shot the Mossberg at the Media Day event.  It is a nice pistol.  It will also come in at a very attractive price point.

Being Mossberg’s first pistol, there will be some questions about reliability and longevity until they are out there for a while.

Have fun out there Duane. This was always our favorite time of year with the excitement of going there and manning our booth with something new and meeting the people.
Great memories for sure!

Be safe out there and say hello to folks for Karl & I if you think of it.

Regards,

Eric R.

Is Shotshow for Media only?

No — it’s mostly for dealers and law enforcement.  However, there are a lot of media attendees.  The general public is not admitted.

However regular folks can sneak in, I have in the past, with some work.  It happened to correspond to the same time I was going to be in the Las Vegas area anyway.
(Dad and I went in 86. Went a decade or so ago by myself.)

Easiest way is to know a dealer who will give you the credentials to get a ticket. Some small time gun stores can't afford to go. You can sometime acquire access through them for a small fee, especially if you are a regular/good customer.  The gun store will have to jump through some hoops for you, so they may want some compensation.  My contact had to send copies of print ads and set up a corporate email address to show I was an 'Employee" of the store.

Of course, those that are legitimately allowed to be there will sometimes be very protective of their show.  So if you get access, keep your mouth shut about it, go to the show, have a good time, protect your source.

Something to think about for next year.

I don't doubt this is still possible, but they have cracked down a lot in the last 3-4 years.  It would definitely take some cooperation from someone who has an FFL.  I used to get some friends in, but ultimately gave up as the documentation requirements became harder.

I understand Duane.  They have to make it hard for the riffraff to get in, but it has to be easy enough for their target audiences to attend.  That is where the opening is.

I haven't tried in the last few years, however I can't believe that it would be too difficult with enough time to prepare.  Not something you can expect to tackle in a few weeks.  However, this summer might be a good time to start the process for next year.
