The US Supreme Court upheld a decision by the 9th Circuit, the most reversed federal appeals court in the country, reversing dismissal of a lawsuit against the manufacturer of guns that were used in a murder.
One of the guns in question was originally sold by the defendants to a police dept., which sold it to a dealer, which sold it to a collector legally entitled to own the gun, who sold it to a convicted felon. So, they are trying to hold the manufactuer, distributor, and dealer liable for something that happened at least 4 transfers after it left their control. Essentially, the plaintiffs are saying that it is negligent to sell guns to the police!
