I don't know what happened to my original post so I am trying again. Any information on my R9 would be appreciated. I have owned it for 10+ years plus fired about 300 rounds without problem except when loaded with 145 grain. Winchester Silvertip 115 are best 100% reliable and accurate. They have become hard to find so I am looking for any suggestions on alternate ammo. I will try to post pictures later. I just cannot upload pictures but my R9 is #R1897 can anyone give me some info about it.

Try Speer Gold Dot or Federal HST in 124 gr. They both have wide acclaim among forum members.

Have you replaced the original springs yet?

I have changed the springs and have a couple of extras. I seems that the 147 grain bullets are a tight fit in the chamber. I am very interested in the history of my R9

Also, if you use Gold Dots Speer Lawman is cheaper than Gold Dot and is good range ammo that closely approximates GD specs.

The R9s like a Gold Dot 124 JHP for defense, such as the FBI were using at the time, and we tested them after manufacturing them with Federal American Eagle (Red Box) 115 FMJ.
The R9 loves those rounds.

Not much really at this time Groundhog, but, the funny thing is I actually do remember building that R1897 framed gun. It may have been back to us for a go over, which is when I usually went over the entire pistol to make sure everything was to spec, and to my liking, and the returned to the customer. That should be a solid piece for you Sir. Try to find Spear God Dot 124 JHP for carry (FBI used that round) and when just testing it out at the range, grab the Federal American Eagle "Red Box" 115 FMJ rounds. Your pistol will be at home eating those up. Ha haa . . . . . .

ECR thanks for the reply. Yes I sent it back because the grips were too tight causing some problems with the sear or springs, your memory is better than mine. After it was rework it performed flawlessly. You were kind enough to send me some extra springs and screws. Great memory. The gun lives in Alabama it is waiting for Beto to come and take.

With either of my R9s, my original Farmingdale or current Deer Park model they had not failed to function with 115gr. WWB or 124gr. Gold Dots. I may have shot 115gr. Gold Dots through my original at one point, but I don't remember for sure. I just don't like 115gr. ammo (or the heavy stuff either) in 9mm. It's just a personal preference of mine from experience I've gained over time.

I'm glad to hear that. That was what I lived for at the time, and now too frankly. Until I can no longer to it, I will offer my knowledge of any particular R9 or R380 I can here. All you need to do is make a post or email me through this forum. I'm around.
