COR-BON DPX 9mm 80 grain
« on: August 27, 2008, 05:38:19 PM »
I was talking to Maria at Rohrbaugh last week and she mentioned that COR-BON had been testing some new 80 grain ammo with the R9.  She told me that many staff members at Rohrbaugh were using it in their pups.  Since I noticed a few others here on the forum mentioning the ammo and availability, I thought I would ask COR-BON.  Through another forum I frequent I sent a message to them this morning and received this reply back just this afternoon from Mike Shovel, a sales manager at COR-BON.

We have a major test of the 9 - 80DPX next weekend.  If we can get them to work in all size guns, it should be available by mid September.  It does work extremely wll in the little R9 pistols.  As soon as its avalilable it will be listed on our website at www.corbon.com

So, looks to be close to coming to a range near you!

If I remember correctly from some way old posts and this is a Barnes X type solid copper bullet I would expect it to perform very, very well on tissue.

I have NO connection with Cor-Bon or Barnes but I do have some familiarity with Barnes rifle bullets.

Corbon's .380 DPX is also 80 grain, non +P.

.380 TEST RESULTS from Keltec 3AT
10% Ballistic Gelatin
Barrier: No barrier. Bare gelatin.
Penetration: 8.375”
Recovered Weight: 80.2 gr.
Expansion*: .714 cal.
Velocity: 914.7 fps

.380 TEST RESULTS from Keltec 3AT
10% Ballistic Gelatin
Barrier: Four Layers of Denim
Penetration: 6.75”
Recovered Weight: 80.8 gr.
Expansion*: .732 cal.
Velocity: 958.6 fps

Nice results for the .380 DPX.

Regarding the 9mm, I wonder if Corbon is taking a shortcut to developing a non +P 9mm, otherwise I would expect the bullet to be a little heavier than their .380 version.

I  inquired and got a QUICK **SUNDAY** response (posted elsewhere in this forum 10/13/08):

---------------------------
"We don't currently have anything available in a standard pressure load for a 9mm, so I really can't recommend anything for now.

The 80 gr standard pressure 9mm load should be available the first or second week of November if all goes as planned.

Check our website at www.CORBON.com.  Click on the products tab and then scroll down to the dpx tab.  Go down until you see the new 9mm load.

Thanks,

Cor Bon  advised the 80 gr is non +p. They are backordering now as are having problems getting components. ( bullets ??)  They claim it works well in R9 , but guess i will have to wait till my order arrives to find out.
The Hornady critical defense 9mm also looks good and was available from Cabellas last week.
