Which finish would 007 prefer?
« on: April 15, 2009, 01:19:48 PM »
Let us know which Rohrbaugh R9/s finish you feel James Bond would choose as the baddest looking piece to hold under a bad guy's chin (with a lady watching!).   I'll leave my vote for later....
Choices:
Rohrbaugh two-tone R9/s (stainless upper, black lower)
Rohrbaugh stealth R9/s (black upper, mostly black lower)
Rohrbaugh special forces R9/s (all black everything)
Rohrbaugh Robar R9/s (special two-tone with polished trigger, etc)

Please say which one and why.... let's have fun with this.

Scax:

First of all, welcome to the Forum.

Now . . . for the answer to your question . . . .

In my not-so-humble opinion, given Ian Fleming's description of him as a man of impeccable style and taste, 007 would probably select a model not included in your list -- one of the early-issue Farmingdales --one of the 40 or so issued without an "R" prefix to the serial number -- one upgraded with a set of aluminum grips -- more specifically, one such as the R9 shown in this photograph taken several months ago following its fourth anniversary of daily CCW service:

I would have thought that hard chrome and ivory would have been his style  ;D

The new 007 would pick up an R9 out of the mud, fill it with Brown Bear +P+ ammo, then, after firing 100 rounds without reloading, would just toss it back in the mud.

Something is lost in the new Bond movies.  They had class. I feel like I'm watching another Die Hard or something now.  :)

Danged! Great guns!!  I must admit, there is something to be said for Ivory grips being le ne plus ultra.  Mother of pearl would pimp the ride a bit much, but Ivory is, well, a sort of reminder of the beast from which it was "liberated".  Bond conjures memories of Sean Connery and Moore, but I think Patrick McGoohan (who was first sought, but refused as he wouldn't do the kissy girly parts for strict moral reasons) would have been the best Bond of all - he was a simply brilliant actor with great dynamic range and presence - may he RIP.  Instead, he became a GREAT #6 on The Prisoner which thoroughly rocked England and France - love it!

I think he would have been pretty happy with about any R9 he could have snatched out of the pocket of his enemy as he caught him napping....   :o :o

Keep the posts (and pics!) coming...

Actually, I think Casino Royale was one of the best movies for 007 since Sean Connery was Bond.  Despite Craig not liking guns, I have to think he's better than Brosnan and Dalton (underrated).

I'd say Bond would have either a Stealth or Special Forces.  I'm leaning towards a Stealth because it's pure black.  That Special Forces looks a little less than black..anthracite or something.

Ivory grips? IVORY GRIPS? IVORY GRIPS?

I agree with MOP comment but ivory grips are stunning. Are the grips real or ersatz ivory?

They are not real but look AWSOME!  IDM sells them, they are ivory colored G10.

Real ivory would probably be vulnerable to recoil. I am an (Honorary) Member of the Knifemaker's Guild and I used to collect knives. My favorite scales were fossilized and elephant ivory.

The grips still look stunning. Also, I like the machining on the grips. Nothing beats both worlds when you can enhance appearance and simultaneously improve your grip.

Has anyone seen the Rohrbaugh in Quantum of Solice?

I heard that one of the lady characters had one that appeared on screen, but I don't remember seeing it when I saw the movie.

I couldn't watch the video. WAY too much special effects making it indistinguishable from a video game. I have a big problem with American movies that are impossibly over-produced.

If the movie does have an R9 I will rent it again and look for it.

DDGator (The Administrator of the Forum) found and posted this photograph of the character "Olga" with her R9 in the movie:

Is that a big R9 or just a litttle girl? In any case, now I don't have to rent the movie again and I thank you.

What drives me crazy about Hollywood today is the impossible gun play seen in the movies only to have these (ahem) "stars" quoted as to their anti-gun posture.

Looks like a "Stealth" to me! - silver grip screws, trigger and barrel.
