Dave,
It is very peaceful. I have ear ringing because of shooting guns as a boy, and the wonderful sound of the waves makes a white noise that seems to cure all.
The breeze is always refreshing. During the winter, it can be pretty tough.
I just can't go there enough.
The house is made of very large posts and beams which were brought from Vermont. They are joined together by oak pegs.
The roof is steel.
The siding looks like wood, but is made of fiber cement planks which are stained.
The floor, high above a crawl space, is concrete which has radiant heat pipes running back and forth. On top of that are regular wood floors, or slate.
The second floor, and room above the garage, are also heated concrete covered by wood.
The deck is made of steel beams and concrete.
My description is just to illustrate the low-maintenance features.
