Hello...
« on: October 08, 2006, 12:50:03 AM »
Hello everyone!  I just purchased a R9S today ($1029+tax).  I know more than retail but I see that seems to be the norm.  I had a HK P2000SK with the insight laser, but some dumbass broke into my home and stole it.  I won't keep my fingers crossed to get it back but, who knows?  Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi, my name is Jessica and I am from Texas.  I am 27 years old and believe I bought the best 9mm for concealment and protection available.  I haven't shot it yet but, I hope I don't knock myself out with the reported recoil.  I hope to learn as much as possible here as I have noticed the majority of you are most helpful to people with questions. Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of this forum!

R9GiRl:

Welcome to the Forum!  You did indeed purchase "the best 9mm for concealment and protection available."  If you haven't already done so, check out Chris's excellent FAQ site:

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your HK.  Here's hoping the police are able to collar the "perp" and return it to you.

Thank you!  After I figure out how to upload photos, I will take some pics today by my pool in my bikini for you all.  You'll also get to see my "other" security measures.   :-*

O.K. so I went out and got a Pachmayr #4 slip on at the gun show in San Antonio. Fits perfect and compliments the gun for my petite hands and, in my opinion, the astethics of R9S.  Now I want the trigger extension so, I believe it to be a Pearce compatible with Kahr's MK9/K9/K40 right?  I understand I will have to "sculpt" the extension to the R9's magazine release.  Now the hard part... I cannot for the life of me find a holster.  I am pretty petite and usually wear form fitting clothing.  I've come to the sad conclusion that I will have to buy a smart carry or the like. I guess the best in concealment for my frame.  Just look like a pair of depends undergarments that some moths got a hold of.  Maybe I'm too critical. Does anyone know of a good concealment holster for small bodied women?

I apologize, I knew, but forgot, about the accessories section.  Your humble forgiveness is requested and if a kind Mod would teleport the above to the appropriate place, I would be forever in debt. Thank you...

Hi Jessica,

If you have pockets that would work, RJ Hedley, Ron Graham, and K&D Holsters make good pocket holsters.  I have personal experience with the first two.  Pocket carry is really the purpose of guns this small.

I think some forum members are trying Ken Null's SMZ holster.  If you can wear the shoulder harness comfortably it should work well.  It might work under a shirt as well as under a jacket.

FIST makes a very good lady's strong side belt holster.

Cunningham Custom Leather may be another choice.

You will have to check with the above two to see if they can make one for a Rohrbaugh.

Depending on your mode of dress, this thigh holster might be an option, but I have no idea of how well it actually works.

You might consider a belly band under your shirt.  Use the retention strap if you get this one:

Keep in mind that you can wear an untucked shirt at times when a man can't get away with it, and can wear a jacket when leaving a jacket on would look funny on a man.  Take advantage of this.

Stay away from trigger extensions or trigger shoes.  They could cause a problem with holster fit and create a dangerous situation when reholstering.
Gentleness can only be expected from the strong.  Ancient Chinese proverb.

Thank you very much for the time you took for me. Those links are more than a great start BillinPittsburgh!  It's so hard to find holsters for me.  At the gun show I tried everyone from A-Z there.  Noone had a belly band or premium replica of one.  The one I tried was homemade and felt like an hour or two into wearing I would have blisters on both sides of my abdomen from the homemade stitching.  I will continue the search much better with your suggestions and perhaps more research...Again, thank you.... :D

Sorry, 1 more thing this evening.  I haven't purchased any new 9mm ammo.  Really because I don't know what to purchase for the range and what to use for carry.  The most reliable, accurate, and lowest amount of recoil is what I'm searching for.  I have some Lellier & Bellot 9mm luger 115gr. FMJ left over from the HK I had that the FFL dealer threw in for me.  (I had a chance to shoot 2 magazines before it was stolen.)    Are these O.K? I have them in the magazines now, figured, better than nothing till I know what ammo to buy for each occasion.   I know I'm new and I just want to say thank you all for all your help!

Ammo selection is a frequent topic here and I'm sure if you look around you'll find many opinions posted.  Many here like Speer Gold Dot HP, Winchester Silvertips and Winchester RA9T to name a few.

Whatever you do, do not use any ammo rated +P or +P+.  The R9 takes standard pressure only.

My personal favorite is Winchester RA9T.  This is fairly low recoil and is tested to penetrate as well as +P in gel tests.

Once you choose your ammo, get 100 or so rounds and make sure it works reliably in your pistol.

Good luck with your new R9.

Jessica, welcome to the forum.Looks like you have pretty good security with your Rott.

As a big fan of the HK  (I have 7) I sympathize with your loss.

Another option is a fine line of concealment handbags from Galco. They are of premium quality and comparable in style ,design and construction to any finer bag like Coach,Mark Cross or the like.
