Hey guys,
Updating you from the SHOT Show Press Room.
The R-45 is not on display at the show. The bad news is -- I can't share any pictures.
The good news is that I can confirm that I have held the prototype. The prototype looks great, and is functional. Karl is not yet happy with the shape and contours of the slide, and did not want to reveal the gun to the public at this point. I think I am the only person outside of the factory insiders to see it.
I can confirm that the R-45 is going to be a great addition to the line. I definitely want one. Once again, I think that Karl is going to build an instant classic. Other than that...I am sworn to secrecy. I will publish more information when it becomes available.
I can also tell you that Karl is on a mission to make this gun. It will happen, and it will happen well before SHOT 2012.
Further details, this affiant sayeth naught.
-
When you can a size reference and weight guess would be nice. Thanks
-
Corey,
I think you missed this part of the post.

-
No I saw it. Thats why I wrote "When you can".
-
That will be when it's released in Oct. ;D ;D
John

The good news is, we know it's coming! ;)

The good news is, we know it's coming! ;)
And maybe before Christmas. Thanks for that info Mr. Trains. ;D
John
-
You're welcome, John. Could be a nice Christmas present to ourselves! :D
-
Yes, it would be a fine stocking stuffer. :D But you know I hate waiting.
John

John
LOL ;D
-
See what you did, dano! ;D
-
Yes, it would be a fine stocking stuffer. :D But you know I hate waiting.
John
Uhhhh! The waiting. Maybe the Boberg will come sooner! :D
-
See what you did, dano! ;D
KJ;
Yes, I see that! ;D
I am ready for one of those R45 hand cannons. So if the R9 is a "pup" will the R45 be a "Rottweiler"?
-
or just the BIG DAWG, maybe. ;D
-
dano. The BIG DAWG sounds good to me. You may have coined the name for the R45. :D
-
Haha. Does that mean I get the first one? I will settle for third after the R brothers. ;D
-
I think I hear cherubim... ;D I realize the secrecy needs, etc - I've had my deposit on the R45 out for awhile - if he gets the final shape finished, and could get a mold out to some holster makers, so I could order a holster to arrive along w. the pistol...
(If he's really worried about keeping the shape secret, perhaps it could be sent to Rohrbaugh and included w. the gun.)
Also, a rough idea of cost, so I know how much toy money to set aside.
-
Haha. Does that mean I get the first one? I will settle for third after the R brothers. ;D
dano. You'll have to get in line! Sorry! ;D
-
I don't have a deposit on one and don't care about having one of the first couple of hundred. I would like #224, my birth date. ;D
John
-

John
I do have a deposit in and will take an early one, hopefully. I do know the pitfalls of what can go on with early production, however, Rohrbaugh stands behind their product, so I'm not worried. :)
-
dano. You'll have to get in line! Sorry! ;D
Yes, I know! Just wishful thinking! ;D I am sure that, with all the people that have put down a deposit on the R45, the line is quite long.
-
Is an early model R45 really going to be collectable in this case? Early R380s never took off because there was nothing really special about them. Early R9s had cosmetic changes so they were different in many ways and not just by the early serial.
-
CCW. Can't answer your question on will the early R45 to be collectable or not. Mine's going to be a shooter, so I'm just going to like having one and enjoying what it does. :)
-
I wouldn't think that anything past the first ten would have much more value than than the rest. Who knows how many of the first production the R-Bros will tuck away in the safe. ;D
John
-
Probably quite a few. I'll just be glad when production starts. ;)
-
I will inquire tomorrow as to whether any of these questions can be answered.
-
I just
want NEED one!
-
I'm not worried about collectibility - I drag my guns through all kinds of horrible things - I just don't enjoy delayed gratification...
-
It would be a real collector's item if the first one hundred R 45s came with Blue Carbon Fiber grips.
-
Great balls of fire! Blue Carbons on the R45! That would be nice. :D
-
Is there a waiting list yet?
-
Yes. Contact Tom Watson of the Irish Guard. Send him a PM.
-
Thanks kJ
-
Based on previous issues, I don't think we will see anymore blue CF...
-
We were just wishful dreaming. :)
-
Maybe blue g10? ;)
-
That would work! :D
-
Any news?
-
No, its gonna be a secret for a while yet. We should get to see it first when its done!
-
I'm wondering if it will be okay with +P ammo, I hope so! I was also wondering, will the frame be alloy or stainless? Or perhaps some other material. I'm mainly hoping the gun will be smaller than the PM45 and definitely no larger than the AMT Backup .45acp. It will be nice to have a small .45acp that is pocket sized from a company that is in business! The Kahr PM45 is just too large IMO. I also hope they also keep the heel mag release design like on the R9's. I really would still like to see a steel framed R9 someday as well. Polygonal rifling would be nice too, for a little extra velocity. I also hope they stop using the hex screws and go with slotted ones.
-
I for one could handle an R45s in my stocking. Looking forward to seeing it when released .
-
Super stoked to read this news and will not be buying a PM45 while I wait for my R45 as I did with the PM9 and R9 stealth.
Please, if this gets scanned by anyone at Rohrbaugh, please include a Stealth version in the first release if at all possible. I know I won't be getting an R45 until a stealth or stealth like version is available. I guess I'm just a black gun kind of guy.
-
I for one don't want to see slotted screws on anything. The first thing to go on my 1911s is the slotted screws, a good allen head is much better than a slotted screw could ever hope to be.
The problem with the screws that come with the R9 is they have an extremely small allen head (1/16") and the stainless is softer than an alloy steel.
John
-
John is right. I have seen a lot of slotted screws that were all but destroyed by cheap screwdrivers and equally bad screw drivers.
-
I'll just be happy when it gets here! :D
-

John
Sign me up for 2 of 'em if/when a SF model comes out, so I can keep one and sell the other for double 6 months later....lol
-
Local gun store has a display model. It’s only slightly larger than the R9 in both width, height and length. It will come in three finishes. I have two on order for a June delivery…. Oh, APRIL FOOLS….. Okay, not funny…but I want one….. ;D
-
FUNNY !!!

We're with ya, Toad; want one too! :D
-
Ya had me goin ;D
-
Toad,Toad, Toad - considering how loooong and how BAAADD some of these guys - (me included) have been waiting, that is just wrong! ;D
-
keep the faith
-
Michael. We're certainly doing that; any possibility of a hint?
-
Makes me smile....we'll all have one in due time...but as I saw on another post about not having patience....I cannot wait either.... I'm a sucker for all the new stuff...probably a sickness of some sort...but whoa be it on the zombies who try to invade my home, or try to relive me or my family of our possessions. And should they attempt to harm family or friend...well, ya'll know...'cause I have a feeling ya'll feel the same...that is why I feel so at home here on this forum among so many Great Americans....
-
We could realy do some harm to zomies with a 45Rs! Till then I will just have to keep my Sig p220c handy! ;)
-
BTW is there a pre-shipment purchase list one might join?
-
Yep! Call or PM Tom Watson of the Irish Guard Firearms, here on the Forum, and with a deposit you can get on the list. He'll be glad to help.
http://irishguardfirearmsltd.com/
-
Tom is taking pre-orders and I'm sure that he will get the first of the first guns shipped but it's not a factory pre-order list like Boberg and others have taken. All I'm saying is that if your 37th on Toms list that does not mean you will get the 37th gun shipped from the factory, it only means you will get the 37th gun Tom gets. At least thats the way I read into it, I may be totally wrong. I will say that you won't find a better dealer to go through than Tom is!
-
HMmmmm... I wonder what will come first the Boberg or the R45 ??
-
I'm going to say...............Hmmmm; I haven't a clue!
-
I'm going to say Boberg, since he's hinting at it being very soon for production to begin.
-
Who knows, at least we know what the Boberg looks like. Come on Rohrbaugh, show us what that R45 will look like!
-
One can never tell :D
What came first the chicken or the egg?
-
Yes, a peak at the R45 might spark some excitement!
-
I don't think you will see it until its ready to go... Karl doesn't want to show anything he can't deliver.
I, however, have seen it! Have I mentioned that??? :P
;D

Yes, Duane, I believe you have! ;) But hey, I'd be proud if I had seen the R-45, too. Excellent.

Sure Duane rub it in. " I've seen the R45..na, na, na, na, nana..and you haven't seen it " ;D ;D
-
Sure, he has! ;D
-
Yes, but the "na, na, ha" part was only implied, not expressed!
:-X
By the way, I definitely want one -- but that's not much of a hint, is it?
;)
-
I like the part, "It will happen well before SHOT SHOW 2012". Hope that's still hopeful! :)
-
Yes, that is the best news I've heard all week.
-
Hi guys, so how low a serial number can one of us retail grunts conceivably get? Is there already a "paid in full waitin list" yet? And is it "Any Color YOu Want - As Long as it's BLACK!"
NDA-unemcumbered Hypothetiacl prognostications, any of you in the know?
Any know where the Price range is? I gotta go sight in my Amex card.
Please! A word! A Whisper! A slow gentle pistol whipping with the PT! Anything!
-
Can we assume that it looks like the R9s on roids and not some fudugly new creature?
-
I don't think there is a factory waiting list -- I think that Irish Guard may have a list.
I think its safe to say that there will be a family resemblance . Whenever Karl has talked about other designs, he has always been interested in keeping similar syling cues.

After firing several R380's and R9's--
All I have 2 add is--
ME WANT !

John
The old screws often stripped out when the threads oxidized to the frame. I would rather see slotted to keep this from happening, but I could go for a large torx head screw as well. Anything would be better than the tiny allen head screws of the R9.
-
John is right. I have seen a lot of slotted screws that were all but destroyed by cheap screwdrivers and equally bad screw drivers.
That's why you need to use the correct screwdriver size, just like with any other type of bit.

Or, better yet, use a bushing. I don't think the R9 uses a bushing and that is part of the problem. Could someone confirm or deny this? It's been a long time since I sold my R9.
-
No bushing, just threaded holes in the Aluminum frame. :o
-
I had a nice meeting with Eric Rorhbaugh today and i thought that the 45 was a secret. I guess not
-
dave606. Welcome to the Forum. The R45 in itself is not a secret; just when it's coming out.
-
Dave, Welcome to the group. Did you see the 45 ?
-
Seems like maybe he did! Just a guess. ;D
-
Thanks for your keen insight, Dave, and welcome to the party.
-
And a great party it is, Dave; you'll see. Come on back.
-
R-45? Damn....
/me ponders how to hide that purchase from CINC-house.

Speaking from personal experience in such matters, I endorse those immortal words of Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper: "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to get permission." 8)
-
Yep! I'm trying to get up the courage to try that with a new ZR1 Corvette. The wife is totally against it. The salesperson said that's what he did and it worked. Naturally, he would say that! I'm working on it, though. :)

Roger that Mr. S.
I concur, statement has merit. :D
Edit: Hmmm, I was just thinking that Wifey has been trying to confiscate my PM9 for herself. "Don't be mad, Honey. Here, you can have that Kahr that you wanted."

Now that sounds like a plan!
Perhaps you might give her the PM9 about a week before you take possession of the R45. And then you might play a "trump card" by saying something such as: "Honey, you are the most important aspect of my life, protecting you is my most important mission in life, and for that mission I need --and you deserve -- nothing but the best." (Something similar has worked once or twice for me.) 8)

Great! I have a plan and a checkbook...now I need to wait for an R-45. :-/
-
You have now joined the company of us who are ardently anticipating the arrival of the R-45. :)
-
Ok I'll bite. I have read some of the posts on the R-45 on the forum. I am not sure if you are joking or not. So I will ask the question point blank.
Is this a spoof or are there really plans for Rohrbaugh to make a sub-compact in .45ACP?
If so, I am guessing it would have to be larger in size, unlike the different Seecamps.
-
Oh, it's coming all right!
I'm sure it will bigger. If it is the same size as an R9, then the brothers will have made genius strides in metalurgy and design.

It is definitely coming. When we don't know, but I understand there is a proto type already made with a few that have seen it. So we just wait..................... A few of us already have a deposit in with Tom from the Irish Guard Firearms who is a member here on the Forum.
