Congrations to Navy!  We shall return.

In the meantime, I do have one Navy connection obtained just before I was commissioned in the Army -- a commission as "Admiral in the Great Navy of the Sovereign State of Oklahoma."  Don't laugh.  Here's the proof:

Richard, you are right!! The Army mule is dead. What a game for all to watch with all the great traditions.

Where were you in the Navy? I was on the Hornet[ one-twomaru ] and the Saratoga, a.k.a. sorry sara. They were all good
when one departed their flight deck and sometimes when
coming back also.

I have crossed the Equator, but it was on land.  (Does that count for "Shellback" status?)

If not, I still have plans.  It is my hope to sail around the world in a 50-foot sail boat.  The only obstacle is convincing my little wife that all of that is a good idea.

Again, congratulations to the Navy football team.  I expect the quarterback (Owens) to be commandiing an aircraft carrier within the next 20 years.

I was in from '77 to '97, and served at a variety of commands/bases.  Got to see and do a lot of things.

Some of the commands were:
RTC, San Diego
USS Coral Sea
NAS Meridian
NAS Cecil Field
Camp Lejeune
1st MarDiv, Camp Pendleton
Justice School at Newport
Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme
NMCB Three
Two commands @ NTC, Orlando

My two youngers brothers have served - one just retired this past summer and the other is still serving.  My Dad was retired Navy.  All combined, we've totalled nearly 100 years of Navy service.

My youngest brother was on the Sara back in the early-mid '80s.

It's almost the same.  ;)  It's no fun though unless you've gotten to endure the traditional crossing ceremony.  I think I took 7 or 8 showers that first day trying to get all the muck and crud off.  :o

K-Man,
Thanks for the career summary--you had a wide and
varied career and, no doubt, met a lot of top-notch
people as I did also. I was regular but after three
consecutive cruises, of my own choice, I decided that I loved
the flying but not the ship tenancy so I resigned--still
have many good friends, however, and we had 250
people show-up at an Air Group reunion in Pensacola in
May; stayed at the old BOQ built in 1936--fantastic;
the Navy is and always will be a class act.

Kevin - knew the Navy connection but not the details - impressive and that is quite some stint.  All that and here you are one of the top holster makers.

The navy must leave some good skills intact after all that time - and not just maritime ones :) - you must be very proud, I would be.

Well, it's time to take my lumps with good cheer. Navy won and is the First to win 50 games in the Army / Navy series. Today Navy was the better team and and I congratulate them and all of the millions of alumnae around the world, past and present. Navy is a class team from a class school with great members and supporters and I salute them.
I close now with the traditional Red Sox chant for my beloved Black Knights and The Long Grey Line.

OP/SEC prevents me from saying where I was this morning, but we DID have the Commander and Chiefs Cup for a little while. I can say no more.....!

If you're experienced, then please forgive me.  If you can find it, there's a very good book called "Advanced Crusing" that puts the whole transoceanic thing in perspective...  Not if you capsize, but when, not if your in a Force 5, not if you're in 60' seas....  It's pretty easy to get your boat wherever you'd like it -- usually you can find some sailbums to do it for basically supplies, and a ticket home, and then fly to meet it -- but you may be looking forward to that type of challenge/have the ability to deal w. it.

I've been sailing for some 45 years (longest cruise, Bahamas/Annapolis) but am glad to have all the help I can get.

Realistically, though, the chances that I'll be able to convince my wife to embark on anything more ambitious than an island-hopping cruise in the Caribbean are probably slim to none.   :'(
