How about this...

Does anyone know a good source for a quality pin vice? What I'm thinking of is using a length of brass wire in a pin vice in lieu of a punch. What do you guys think?

If I understand you properly, are you sure you need it?  I just use a length of brass rod, and push my pin right out -- doesn't seem to need any real force.

From what I am finding, the brass punches are too soft,  they bend very easily.  A short length of brass rod should do it fine..so I agree
