I got a nice suprize in the mail box today. My split holster (don't know the real name of it yet) from MECO got here and it's as nice as all the others I have. Its a great looking holster that can be used in the front or rear pocket. It's thinner than the regular back pocket holsters in that its pannel is part of the main holster and not an attached flap. I like it. I can't wait to use it a while to see how I really like it. Thanks Robert!

Looks really nice. It is different and in a good way.
-
Your welcome hope it works for you let me know after you carry it a few days
-
Great job once again Robert. I think it is a bit more improved since the last split one you made.
-
Robert what is the advantage of these over conventional pocket holsters? What are you going to make them out of? What will the price be compared to the originals? What,What,What. I sound like a four year old! Anyway I want one. I'll call you tomorrow. Thanks pard. Gene
-
Looks great. I have one of those in shark on order. How long did yours take?
-
It gives no weapon print, if that is a high priority. Also, it looks more stable in the pocket which may be partially offset by a bit more leather to get in the way when drawing in a stressful situation. Just an observation but it is a unique design.
-
Robert, cashiers check mailed. Do you have a picture of that honey colored elephant skin? Or maybe Corey has a picture he would share.
Thanks,
Gene
-
It took about 4 weeks. Robert had talked to me about it before he had even made one. At that time I did not know just what it would look like but I knew I wanted one.
I think this is the Honey Elephant.
-
I like it. That is one HONEY of a holster.
-
Corey, thanks for posting that elephant skin picture again. Robert's holsters and Corey's photography have to be the best combination on the internet! Anyway, when I called Robert to order the "split" holster I asked about any new material he might have. When he mentioned the "honey brown" elephant skin I asked if it the same skin as the ones you and I have. He said it was not. He said it was smoother and the color was different. I guess I'll know what it looks like when it gets here. DAMN I LOVE WAITING!!! Gene
-
Just think how nice it is when you get it, though. ;D
-
Ok Gene here is the real Honey Brown Elephant. I LOVE it and can't wait to see it's new form in a R9 holster.

-
Good lookin' stuff!
-
Corey, thank you so much for posting this. Robert(Meco) emailed me this picture of the honey brown elephant skin. Being totally helpless around a computer, I had to ask Corey to bail me out and post a picture of it. As always Corey was willing to help. This forum would certainly survive without Corey, but it is a much better and richer place with him in it. Thanks again. Gene
-
Robert, thanks again for the picture. When I first talked to Robert about getting the new split holster, he told me about the new elephant skin he had. He said it was lighter in color and much smoother with less wrinkles. You were certainly right about the smoothness, Hell, I've got more wrinkles than this stuff has. Now to indulge in my favorite pastime, waiting. Gene
-
This is it! Looks AWSOME!!!!!!! Gene your a lucky fellow.

One outstanding holster, there, Gene! :)
-
Thank you again corey for posting this for me. You know, Corey, you are awfully young to have a kid my age. ;D I'll bet you'll be glad when you get me raised. I really do appreciate your help. Robert mailed the picture to me as soon as the holster was finished and now I've got to wait on the mail. Is'nt it beautiful I can't wait to see it. Thanks again Robert, you're a wizard!! Gene
-
Gene,
Now all you have to do is hope it arrives. ;D
Maybe tomorrow you should wait for your mailman and give him a heads up that your expecting a new holster. :o ;D
John
-
Wow those are nice. Sooo tempting... That elephant hide is especially beautiful.
I'm curious how the gap between the sections looks in a jeans front pocket after a while, once the lower section starts to bend but the upper section is forced to remain straight.
-
I'm speaking out of school here, for sure, however, these are so new, I doubt if that has been observed yet.
-
The elephant appeared in my mailbox a while ago, and let me tell you it's BEAUTIFUL!!! I am amazed at how great it looks. A week or so past I got a call from Robert about the split holster he was making. He suggested that if he dyed the yellow colored skin a little more reddish brown color that it would look better. As usual he was right. Too bad, if he'd used the yellow skin I was going to call it "The Banana Split" holster. ::) ::) Sdlsaginaw, as to your post, I think it's too early to give you an answer. After I carry awhile, I'll post back and let you guys know how it's doing. Robert, what can I say? You just get better all the time. Thanks again. Gene
-
Gene. You must have a big, big mailbox. ;D
-
I am very interested in how these "split"holsters hold up after some use.
IMO,that is what matters in the long run..
-
I believe due to the fact that the holster is made by Robert Meco, it will hold up in excellent fashion; however, I understand the concern.
-
That Robert must be one helluva man! Can you imagine dyeing an elephant? ;D ;D Gene
-
I know. Just like the elephant fitting in your mailbox. ;D
-
Yeah, and then the family has to ignore it in the living room ;D
-
I don't know if I'll ever be able give you guys a report on this thing...I can't keep it in my pocket long enough to get any information . Seems like I'm taking it out of my pocket and looking at it every few minutes. This thing just gets better looking each time I see it!! Each time I see one of Robert's holsters I'm amazed all over again at the quality of workmanship involved. The quality of your advice ain't too shabby either. Gene PS I still say "Honey Brown" sounds like the name of a stripper. ;D ;D
-
Gene. Get another one just to admire, and one to keep in your pocket; problem solved! ;D
-
Ahh, that would explain the panic in the shopping mall... ;)

OK, it's two weeks later, and here are my impressions of the Meco split holster. First, let me say that as much as I liked it on sight that it's even more beautiful now. Function, A1!, it's been my only carry in that time so I've gotten pretty well acquainted with it, the split allows some flex when I bend or stoop which is very comfortable. It prints, but then so does everything else you put in your pocket, it just doesn't look as much like a pistol as some holsters do. In summation, I like it a lot, and I'll like it more as time goes on. And best of all, it's a Meco!! Gene
-
Thanks for that report, Gene. We now know that it works, already knew it was georgeous; and most of us knew it would work, as it's a MECO!
-
Gene thank you for the report glad it is working out for you
-
Great report. If you recall I to have the MECO split holster, only I have not worn it much. I need to, as I like it and I know that it works, but just not to which degree it works. I'm stuck with a couple of my other holsters I've been wearing lately and can't break free.
What pistol is you MECO Split holster made for by the way?
Mine is for my Seecamp.
-
Chameleon, my holster is elephant and is for my Rohrbaughs. I had seen your holster on the Seecamp forum and liked it a lot. I especially love the color of yours. I just about ordered one like it, but Robert (Meco) had been telling me about the new elephant skin he had gotten so I decided to try it. I'm glad I did as I really like the holster. When you've carried yours enough to have an opinion of it, let us know how you like it. Gene
-
I received my Meco split holster done in black shark a few weeks ago. This is a fantastic design and I would highly recommend. Works great and the top flap really does break up the lines of the pistol.
-
hd etc. I have a Seecamp front pocket holster in black shark skin that I got from Meco last year. It's beautiful!. I'm thinkin' that the black shark skin split holster like you have will be my next R9 order from Robert. Gene
-
This split holster really interests me, how much thinner is it than the orginal back pocket holster? I currently carry my r9 in meco back pocket holster in my dockers everyday for work. It shows wear marks where the holster sits all day.
Do ya'll think mecos split holster would do the same?
What other back-pocket holsters would work so I can stop ruining my dockers!
-
You might look at these. I have never carried in a back pocket so I can not offer any first hand experience.

Do you mean a rectanglular "outside" the pocket wear mark?
Like a can of Skoal makes in blue jean pockets of cowboys, i.e. the Texas condom.
-
Yes, I trade between 6 pair of dockers a week. One for each business day and shorts on sunday! The rectangular shape in my rear pocket forming from the r9 and the meco holster.
I am looking to replace the holster with something slimmer. I am a big fan of mecos holsters but would be up to trying a new makers holster as long as it isnt as hard on my dockers.
I have been thinking of desantis superfly in the backpocket or perhaps mecos new split holster?
Any thoughts?
-
I would think that any holster with a different size and/or shape would do the trick. Just so the outline is not identical.
Good Luck
-
Good though, I guess any other shape holster would do the trick.
I was hoping someone would have some insight on a great back-pocket holster!!??
Thanks!!
-
It seems that a lot of guys have been so happy with that Hedley/Meco style because it works so well. Thus it is the main style being used by forum members.
Maybe someone has tried something as good and will chime in.
-
Maybe but it would be hard pressed to beat.
-
Like I said.... :D
-
Thanks everyone for the kind words
-
Robert,
It looks like a great design, and as always Master Craftsmanship.
John
-
I have seven Meco front pocket holsters and use, and like, every one of them. I've been thinking that maybe, just to give them a fair trial that I should order a couple more. ;D ;D Gene
-
By all means, Gene. Can't have too many holsters; Rohrbaughs either! :D
-
So what is the general consensus by those carrying the new split holster made by Robert ?
John
-
Did everyone get these for show. :o
Who is carrying one of the Split Holsters and what do you like or dislike about it, if you don't want to post it here PM or e-mail me. I'm just trying to decide if I want to get this style.
John
-
John. Get one. Tell how you like it, then sell it! ;D
-
I was waiting for you. I bought two holsters in the last couple of weeks and have two more on order, its your turn.(http://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp216/yankee2500/lol-057.gif)
John
-
Great, John! ;)
-
I hadn't seen this thread, or I would have chimed in. I received a Meco split holster a few weeks ago and have been using it quite a bit. I like it, very nice work, and I like that I can switch it from front to back pocket and it doesn't print too much like a gun.
I think it's a good design and will likely use it alot. I use a Graham a fair bit too, access is probably better with the Graham, but the Meco presents less of a "gun" outline, with the flap of leather in front.
I've had a Milt Sparks on order for awhile, it should be here in the next couple months. That was always my favorite pocket holster for my S&W 340 j-frame. I'm curious to see what I think of it for the R9. I'll report in when it arrives.
-
ehb86,
Thanks for the info, I also like my Grahams very much.
I know Robert does first rate work and was trying to decide if I wanted to try one of the split models.
John
-
Now there's your answer, John. How about it. Do you want one? :D
-
Still trying to decide.
John
-
Do it!! ;D
-
I know. Decisions, decisions! ;)
-
CCW,
Thanks for the encouragement. ;D
John
-
Yep! Go for it! ;)
-
I've been using my split, but I will admit it only works with certain pants pockets. When I do use it, it works real well.

-
chameleon,
That is a fine looking holster but that goes without saying if Robert made it. Thanks for the input.
John
-
chameleon. Gotta admit, it is an excellent lookin' holster!
-
neat looking holster i never saw one like that
-
The neatness, and craftsmanship is not mine, it is all Robert, he designed and built it, I just have to write out the check.
The split makes sense as it allows the leather to break-up the pistol profile yet allows your hand to slip in between the leather flap and the pistol grip, get a good purchase on the pistol and draw.
My hat is off to you Robert for being so clever. The craftsmanship as always is outstanding.
I am proud to call him my friend.
-
Well, I took the plunge and ordered a meco split holster to replace my current one purchased online. I ordered it in black and and hoping to receive it before the end of January. I'll post pics once I pick it up....local!
-
spursguy10,
I'm sure you will be pleased with anything Robert makes.

Excellent choice. Don't have one like that, however, do have several pocket holsters made by Meco.
