What have you DONE for "the cause" LATEL
« on: August 19, 2004, 10:45:14 AM »
I know we all talk a good game – but what are you DOING for “the cause”?  What concrete actions have you taken in say… the last two years?

I broadly define “the cause” as the promotion of responsible gun ownership, 2d Amendment rights, lawful concealed carry, and the shooting sports.

Here is my list.  This is not to brag – I am sure many of you have longer lists.  The idea is to exchange information and motivate ourselves to do more.

1.      I belong to the NRA.
2.      I have a CWP in Florida.
3.      I shoot IPSC and belong to a local pistol club.
4.      I write for Concealed Carry Magazine as a guest editor.
5.      I administer a firearms forum on the internet that is a positive, productive gun community.
6.      I have been a major part of three people obtaining their own CWP and one person buying his first firearm.
7.      I have taken two absolute newbies shooting and introduced them to the safe and responsible use of firearms.  I have three more scheduled!
8.      I have recruited two shooters to IPSC who had no prior competitive shooting involvement.
9.      I vote for candidates that support firearms ownership, and watch for RINOs.
10.      I have written to my representatives regarding the Assault Weapon Ban.

What about you guys?

I've been a member of the NRA for quite a while, but recently ponied up for the Easy Pay Life membership.

I'm a member of two state-wide RKBA organizations.

I've written local, state, and national representatives numerous times.

Both my boys are in the Cub/Boy scouts.  Whenever the meetings cycle to my home, I start them out by watching the Eddie Eagle gun safety tape.  "Stop!  Don't Touch!  Leave the Area!  Tell an Adult!"

I've introduced two people within the past year to firearms, both resulting in an unarmed person purchasing a pistol, one of whom has gone on to get his CPL (and I have mine, of course).

And, of course, I support the firearms manufacturers on a regular basis by buying way too many of their products. :)

Since settling here 4 years ago - I have been an NRA member and just recently converted annual to life membership.

Also member of GOA, Citizen's Committee for RKBA (life).

I have had my CCW now near three years.

Not too long ago took the course for becoming an NRA Instructor ... all disciplines.  Hoping to team up with a coupla other guys to run a basic pistol course next month and if that works well .. hopefully manage more on a monthly basis, if the uptake is good.

Despite the horrendous number of requests for donations from NRA, NRA-PVF, and more recently the NRA ''news'' deal ... I have tried to send something most times to help the fight.  Not always a lot per time but cumulatively I begin to think I maybe shouldn't add it all up over this last year in particular.

I write my representative whenever necessary.  Amazingly - always get an acknowledgement.!

At local level am always ready to assist with new shooters .... and have managed to bring on a few ..... and still working on it.

Oh and ... small point but - have got a coupla people started on hand loading.

Never seems enough but - I do feel I play a small part in the whole picture.

(I am also a verbose writer, frequently apt to ramble .... and I love tinkering with images) ...  ;D ;D

Let's see.... my resume is not as impressive as you guys, but here goes.

- NRA
- CCW Kentucky (soon to be Tennessee when renewal time comes(moving next week) )
- In the last few months, I have taken 5  beginners shooting (heck I take this beginner (myself) everytime I go  :D) - playing a role in three of them purchasing their first firearm - all of which have signed up for ccw class.

Thats it thus far.  Hopefully as I wrap up school and have some more free time, I would like to become more involved in 'the cause'  ;D

6. Support local and out of town gunsmiths.
7. Support and vote for pro 2nd Amendment candidates. They

I was in standby mode in the gun world for quite a few years until Ohio got it's CHL going early this year. So now I:

1) Am Ohio CHL holder (12 hours training, fingerprints, application fees)
2) Am Florida CHL holder (fingerprints, application fees)
3) Am Dues paying member of Ohio for Concealed  Carry (NRA volunteer org of the year!)
4) Participate as active member of www.glocktalk.com, Kahr and CZ boards on www.pistolsmith.com, www.czforum.com, this forum, and  on others less actively
5) Practice defense shooting skills weekly
6) Wrote both my Senators (lost cause) and House Rep (good guy), Speaker of the House (great guy!), Senate Leader, and President regarding letting the AWB sunset
7) Sold two guns that were safe queens, purchased 2 (soon to be 3 when R9s) carry guns
8) Purchased carry ammo by the case from online dealers
9) Purchased appropriate carry leather and accessories from several reputable craftpersons (you know who they are!)
10) Purchased tactical LED flashlight

I'm postponing my NRA and GOA membership until I get this Florida relocation over with (fewer addresses to change, am letting all my subscriptions lapse, etc) in the next few months...
