I'm glad I found this board. some one at Pistolsmith (Kahr) post it.
I tried to post my own avatar, but didn't show... any ideas?
-
I am not aware of any problems displaying the "personal pictures" -- I assume you are putting in the web address of a photo that is hosted somewhere else on line?
-
DDGator - Yes, I did use the URL of my personal avatar which is hosted in my own website... unless I need to use "(http:// + )", which I didn't use - I'll try that to see if it works.
Pete (The Oldfella)
OK - I think I know what happened, I failed to check the box. It's working now. Thanks.
Pete
-
Hello all..
I'm also new, over from the NAA site.
Seems like alot of Floridians, St Pete here.
Anyway, I've enjoyed reading this forum, &
it looks like I'm going to have to spring for
one of those R9s pieces.
-Jeff
-
Welcome to the both of you Jeff & Pete, good to have you here!
Cool avatar Pete! ;D
-
Jeff and Pete..
Welcome to the site and May the R9 be with you.. ;)
-
Thanks for the welcome, Brenden - As you can see, I'm not much of a poster, but I do browse and read; a lot of good news about the New Puppy in town... seems like it's catching on.. problem is, these old arthritic hands can no longer rack the slide - and the recoil is just too much for me.
Pete
-
Pete - Jeff - welcome to you both :)
Sorry to hear about the hands Pete - that is certainly one downside with semi's. In fact tho my wife has mercifully not yet got arthritic problems in her hands, she does still find semi's awkward re slide management. So - revo carry for her.
Hope tho you'll stick aound (ya both) and stay in touch when you can.
-
I know what you mean - I'm now into revolvers, mostly the 3" collector's pieces. I'm currently looking for a S&W 657 (.41 Magnum) 3", full lug, bead blasted... darn hard to find!
Pete
-
Hi oldfella,
Good choice there. Before the 657 came out, I sent Magnaport my nickled #57 4 inch. They striped it of the nickel, cut the square butt to a K frame round butt with a 3" barrel and applied an electroless nicklel finish. They also added a crane lock along with their superb tuning job and of course their patented porting. I am very comfortable with it 20 years later.
-
Welcome Jeff and Pete, We look forward to more of your posts. Tom
-
Dear Fellow R9'ers: Thanks to TW, DDGator, RS9Carry, and all for your welcoming me to the site.
I believe I casually saw something in either Am Rifleman or AmHandGn. Magazine. Then somehow got from Google to this site.
I have been lurking for a while, mostly reading threads on the R9 itself and related technical issues. It sounded like you all were more dedicated to this piece as anything I have heard on other type forums.
I recently dedided to acquire an R9. I now have one on order since June 16, 2005 from Bob in Port Charlotte, FL. He told me it would more than likely be about 2 months. I do not know if this will be an 's' or not. Actually, it matters not to me, as I like both. They each have their certain appeal. I can point shoot reasonably well.
I was not sure how to post my new member info so I will start here:
I am 57 yrs. young, Married(again), and live in Hallandale, FL. I am back in Florida after 12 years in my native NY, having lived in Naples and Pompano Beach from 1977 to 1989. Prior to moving back here, I was in London, UK for 2 yrs. I sold much of my gun collection at that time as I was unable to take to England, and NY was/is a bit oppressive when it comes to firearms. I was a Winchester lever gun collector and some Colt Sixguns, as well as many .22's. I plan to acquire just a few items for Cowboy Action Events, at which time I will start participating in that.
I now either carry a G27, or a KT32. The 32 keeps my "attitude" non-existant. The 32 is way better than nothing, but that's about it. The R9 is a dream of a piece for this environment, and I can still use the Glock for a 'car gun'. An 1897 Win. Riot Pump keeps us safe when at home. Cannot wait to get R9. Already thinking of a second one.
Many thanks to all for the great coverage and support of this fine pup.
Regards, Larry- "The Mouse That Rohr'd"
-
Larry,
From the Ocean State, welcome.
As I sure all the Rohrbaugh Forum members will attest to, the wait is worth it.
I was fortunate to have acquired my first R-9 from the classified section of this forum. I had placed an order with a dealer for an R-9s. I had been warned of the potential 3 -6 month wait. Although willing to wait, I couldn’t say no to “one in the hand”.
Again, welcome.
Bill

Larry - just a thx for your resume!! Always good to know a bit about our fellow members. So - NY eh - well - you sure are better for gun rights now in FL!!!
And you ''survived'' 2 yrs in UK too!! If you hadn't gathered it I am an ex pat Brit - been here 5 years and lost my 24 handguns collection when the Gov deprived me of them in '97 - I have since caught up - and some!
I too am on marriage #2 ...... and a mere 60 years young!! Lot of us oldies on here! Again, welcome and glad to have you on board. I hope you all member Floridians will manage to ride out the ''Dennis the Menace'' - be glad to see you all back in safe and sound.
-
Welcome Larry, Glad to have you back in the US. If you had a house in Naples that long ago, I bet you wished you had stayed there. With the land values now in that area. Tom
-
Dear R9'ers: Again thanks for the welcome,Welcome.
RS9-Now I gather, Mate! Sorry for the new 'troubles' in London. Thnx Billmack, K-man for the info-great site, been there before. Tom- You bet I am sorry for not holding on to house in Naples-5 acres,Gst.house, 3 car garage, pool- sold it in '89 for 245K ! Life is simpler now and things are more compact, as we all know. But I don't want to complicate this message. Larry
P.S. Any motorcycle enthusiasts among us?
-
Oh dear - Larry - did you mention motorcycle.! ;D
Just ''poor man's Harley but hey - my wife and i love it ....... VTX 1300 C4 ..... not too long ago on a poker run.

Hi Larry, welcome aboard. This is a great forum and the members very quickly become friends and then family. Tom, RJ, and R9s have already saved me on a few different things and they are the nicest, most willing to help folks you will ever get to be in contact with.
The amount of knowledge and help available here is unbelievable and invaluable. If you have a question, or an opinion, this is the place and as you can tell from the weather in Fla., the Members of this Forum feel for their fellow members and really try to help them out.
It sure is nice to part of the family.
Hang in here and you'll enjoy you time.

Hi Larry and welcome! This forum is full of good and caring people. You are encouraged to participate and give your two cents on the many listed threads - or start a topic area of your own. It is a shame that many register on the forum and never seem to post. I feel we are missing communicating with some great individuals. A few months wait for a R9 is well worth it - there are those who have waited close to a year.
Chris - didn't realize you were a Bike Guy. Sold mine seven years ago and still miss it. After a hard day at work it was a way to get in touch with myself again by riding the back country roads. I use to put the cameras in the saddle bags and head into the PA mountains - I have photographed many of the covered bridges in your area. Maybe again some day ...
-
Sold mine seven years ago and still miss it.
Mike - get another - you owe it to yourself.! I don't know what I would do at this late stage in life without my biking (plus shooting and R/C planes!).
Yep - many covered bridges in Bedford County - I am very fond of my locale - tomorrow we meet with some buddies and ride up to beyond Hollidaysburg to go visit Indian Caverns. Should be a nice trip. :)
-
Enjoy the ride Chris - should be nice - I've never been to Indian Caverns. Always would park the bike at "Ship on the Mountain" to enjoy the four county view. When I was a kid it was a thriving business.
-
Oh Dave - ''The Ship''. Did you know that burned down a coupla years ago or so?? Sad but true.
Not many weeks back Bonnie and rode back on R 30 and stopped there for the view - it was clearer than often and it is good to see so far.
I have pics from way back of the place ''as was'' ....... in fact my earliest days with Bonnie before we wed was of a visit to that place. It was built in 1932 and for sure, was one heck of an attraction - you can still see over the road what was the tiny gas station ''shed'' LOL.
Times and places change but the ship was certainly one of the very famous places in this corner of PA.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Damn typo's - I could swear my figners have a life of their own! ;D ;D
-
Yes Chris I saw on the news the Ship burned down - My parents would make a trip to Shawnee park once a year, before they got their Bedford Co. camp and was there almost every weekend in the summer. I started stopping at the Ship in 1954 when I was 6. Then we were lucky if the car got up the mountains without overheating.
One of my nicest Bike runs was with Malcolm Forbes - he flew about six bikes in for his friends and I was one of the lucky ones asked to ride along. Still have the signed dollar bill.
Time for Bed - hope the best for those in the storms path.
-
Hi Chris, My old bikes were 2 Triumphs,2 BSAs, 1 AJS and a Norton. Then a Harley fat boy. Those were the fun days riding and cruising. What was that old saying "you meat the nicest people on a H....." What was the deal with that? Enjoy! Tom
-
Tom,
I'm very impressed!
I only had a Honda 305cc Super Hark. That was nothing compared to the Norton.
Bill
-
Bill, The 2 best bikes were the Triumphs, 1 was a show bike all chrome and candy apple red with white and red rolled and pleated leather seat and knee pads. The other was a Bonniville T120 TT special with 10.5 to 1 compression. It flew! Tom
-
Tom, Sadly I never had a Triumph tho a buddy had a nice ''Bonny'' and another had a great Norton Dominator - this was back in late 60's!!!
I had a 250 BSA Starfire mid 60's - then went after a biking lapse to a Honda CB250 - followed by a 400 Four. Longish gap again then K1 Honda GoldWing 1,000 - nice bike!.
Another gap then a temporary Kawasaki 250 Scorpion followed by Yamaha XJ650G - did 36k on that!. That was followed by Suzuki GS1000G - which I sold when I came over in 2000. Managed to find a near identical one here and so that did me til 2003 Summer, when I got the current VTX 1300 C4.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dave - did the ride today to Indian Caverns - here is a pic for flavor! Great day ..........

Chris, did you ever go over and see Frank Lloyd Wright's house Fallingwater? That is one of my favorite places.
Also, I was on the way to York, PA for a tour of Harley Davidson factory, but they were down that day for a model changeover. It was very disappointing.
Bill
-
Tom, I'm tempted to go buy a motorcycle right now!
We just had successful cataract surgery. That doesn't sound like something a motorcycle rider should be getting. :)
Bill
-
Chris, did you ever go over and see Frank Lloyd Wright's house Fallingwater?
Unfortunately Bill have not made it there yet - but it is on the (long) list of ''to do''. Great thing about the long list is - I know that even when I drop it'll be unfulfilled - and nothing could be more boring than having somehow ''done everything''! :)
Your abortive Harley visit was a shame - just recent or a while ago? Oh and cataract surgery eh - successful I am assuming (hoping) - so now, well - a bike is a must! ;) :P
-
Bill
It is never too late to start riding. I have been to Fallingwater several times - nice visit and history. The first time was when I was in my Ayn Rand "Atlas Shrugged" stage at 18.
Chris and Tom
I bet you two where at Woodstock - I think I see a hint of hippie. Nice bikes you guys have gone through. Chris - nice cavern pic - bet it was nice and cool after a hot ride. Got my adopted son (white standard poodle) from a breeder in Hollidaysburgh seven years ago.
-
The Harley trip must have been maybe 1990.
It was really a "secret" destination trip to Fallingwater for my wife, and she was completely surprised, after going through Ohio, West Virginia, and then Pennsylvania.
At that time, we realized that York might be within range, but a telephone call told that they were down for that period.
It would be impossible to see those wonderful machines, and not up and buy one right away.
In this part of the woods, some short years ago, you had to enter a drawing where the winner got the privilege of buying a bike. They were not available, otherwise.
Things have got better now.
You are fortunate to have a motorcycle.
Dave, I've got to be careful and not get started. :D
You caught me off guard by saying Ayn Rand "Atlas Shrugged".
I'll have to check out that novel.
-
Bill - I sold my bike after surviving a touchy operation about 8 years ago - figured why do myself in on a bike. Sorry I did - I rode for many safe years - it makes you feel alive when you can spell the environment while you ride. At the same time you get a false sense of security on a big bike with windscreens and all the goodies. Many bike accidents are from other drivers so you always have be alert.
Bill. Forget the bike and buy that red corvette.
-
Chris, The 2 BSAs were 1961 Firebird scramblers 650 ccs. Both bikes were restored and had upswept pipes. However, when one rides older restored english bikes in the Texas heat, they just over heat and stop. Also had 2 Sterling sub guns, one suppressed and a FN FAL. Lots of fun, the brits know what guns work well. Tom
-
Good point, Dave!
My greatest pleasures would come early in the morning, maybe far out in the country, when zero cars were around.
It's a wonderful feeling to ride, but quite dangerous, I think.
You really have no chance if somebody does not see you. It's bad enough just driving in a car.
I'm feeling pretty dumb about not recognizing the novel you mentioned. A trip to the library may be required.

My second Harley and 5th bike:

Shucks Tom - Stirlings eh! Well - I had back in early 90's a very nice Stirling carbine semi (in UK) - 16" barrel but otherwise looked same - have an old pic somewhere but can't find right now. Shot 9" groups at 100 yds with that and homeload ammo!
Due to a certain Michael Ryan going crazy in Hungerford early 90's - semi's got banned and despite having just had the gun back from service by Stirling at Dagenham, to fit a new bolt etc - it went!! Was de-activated and I finished up with just a wall-hanger!! :-[
I did manage to sell it before I came over in 2000 but have one mag left. Any likelehood of finding a home for that? (34 rounder IIRC, with the nice roller follower).
-
Logical - nice Harley - can tell that you take pride in your ride.
-
Logical
PS: Nice grass also
-
Tom,
Forget the Corvette, get a Porsche!
Logical- really nice grass! Mountainman knows great grass when he see's it. I just water the weeds!
The one word in my house that my wife won't tolerate is Duccatti! Rohrbaugh, Guardian, Seecamp, Keltec, Sig, Weatherby etc. are all OK, But Ducatti and she comes unglued. I just count my blessings and shut up! Sometimes you learn to take " Yes " for an answer!

That is my weed behind the bike too.
-
''Weed'' - hmmm ... leaf shape seems to lack that ''pointy'' look! ;D ;D :P
-
Mike, Its yes, dear!! logical, the great Road King!!!! Chris, I might be able to unload it for you. Also had a Bren. Tom

Mike -- I feel your pain. In my house the word is "Cessna."

Mike,
Did you mention Porsche?
This is my old 993. Replaced it with a 05, 997.
I need four wheels under me,
Bill
-
Richard,
I feel like I'm surrounded by brothers. It's good to be among ones own tribe!
Mike
-
Bill,
I'm showing that car picture to my wife, and see if we can get one!
Mighty nice.
Bill
-
Bill,
Now, that's what I'm talking about! 4 great wheels and being uninhibited about not having any sense of balance. What a great car. They say that great minds think alike, but if I'm involved I've brought the group ave. waaay down.
But boy do you have great taste. Good luck with the "05" and enjoy.
I learned a long time ago that it's never too late to have a happy childhood! And I'm really enjoying this time around.
( I think! d*mn Lipitor!)
Mike
-
Bill, the car is still on the dealer's lot. If you & your wife want details, I'll be happy to supply.
Mike, you only go aroud once. (so I'm told) Always wanted one. Now I even get to wash it.
Regars.
Bill
-
Bill - nice wheels!!! I have always had a passion for muscle cars and still want a Corvette or Cobra! Trouble is bikes and guns have taken precedence! Oh and model airplanes too!
I do tho still like my four wheels as well as two and made my compromize by staying with a truck - space to haul planes, shooting stuff etc - add trailer- then haul bike or big planes.
Not so new now - 2001 Silverado 1500, Leer (Browning) cap and a Thule pod (holds lots of rifles or plane wings!) :)

Chris, I see you have a smile on your face in that open cockpit!!!!!!! haha Tom
-
Chris, For Cobra info go to kirkhammotorsports.com enjoy Tom
-
Tom - thank you but - I don't think I dare!!!! ;D
I don't wanna die a bankrupt! :D
-
Chris, You owe yourself a look!!!! Its not near as bad as you think. Tom
-
Chris,
You’ve got a great set up.
I use to ride motorcycles, even owned two Harley’s. I found I had no respect for the right grip. Just had to go as fast as the bike would go. Had one to many close calls. My fault. Haven’t been on one in 22 + years. Still don’t trust myself.
Every spring I get the bug. But, to date, have not given in.
Love your toys.
Bill
-
Took a look Tom ....... (drool) - but realistically, knowing what sorta ''on the road'' spec I'd like - I could see a ''project'' getting up to $100k!! :o
I think I'll still stick to dreaming! ;) :)
-
Tom,
You are the MAN! You can hook anybody up with anything. I have met very few people as totally connected and wired into the system as you, and that was in the Army. But you top them all. Cobra's, Seecamps, R-9s's, I can't wait to see what's next. I hope "Fly" wants a Huey! I'm still amazed that you could pull a Cobra out of your hat. What a great and fun car. All I can think is that you must be a Texas Ranger and you have some photo's of Santa!
Any way keep up the good work and watch your e-mail because you are the "Go to guy" now, for sure!
Mike
-
Mike, Actually you can buy a surplus Huey H model. They are cheap, buy 2 and use the parts from one to totally update the other. A friend in Dallas has one and it's flying. He also has 2 F8's, and is updating and restoring one of them using parts from the other. What a world we live in, one can even get a MIG. Tom
-
Tom
I knew it! You are incredible!
Mike
-
Dave,
I've been reading that book "Atlas Shrugged". It is a very large book.
The only problem is: When the R9S comes in a couple of days, I'll have to switch over to the Owner's Manual.
Novels may take a back seat for a few days.
Bill
-
Bill - your one heck of a guy to read that book - I read it many years ago and it was because a girlfriend at the time said if you like Fallingwater you'll like the architect in the book. Leave it for those cold winter nights. Let me know on the R9. Time to take the wife to dinner.
Dave
