Title: Best method for purchase?
Post by: shelb on July 01, 2004, 02:38:25 PM
Hi everyone,
This is a great forum that you have here!  I have been reading about and lusting after one of these R9's for a couple weeks now.  I am glad I found this forum...as it has answered about any question I could imagine before purchase.  Needless to say I am sold.  :)

It seems as though they are tough to locate, however.  From you experience, would it be quicker to have a local FFL place an order with Rohrbaugh, or a dealer listed on the Rohrbaugh website?  Any guesstimates as to what the lead time is for one of these?
Thanks,
-Shelby

I think some of the dealers are ordering ahead of purchase.  In other words, if they are moving the Rohrbaughs they order even before a customer has placed an order.  I see them as high as $945.00 on some websites.  A dealer makes a nice profit on a $945.00 gun.  I know a lot of dealers do this with the high end 1911s.

Shelby - welcome to you!  :)

I am one of these profligate types .. and have ordered my second.  Got local FFL to officially place order tho, Eric new about it in advance and ''reserved'' my place!

My lead time is expected to be around 3-4 months approx .. so I may have my #2 in the fall.  Best to place order PDQ thru your local guy - just give him Rohrbaugh's add'y info (off web site) and they can send order along with their FFL #.

Some folks may have to put down a deposit if first time around.  Fix this with your dealer and Eric.

3 -4 months   :o
I suppose I should get my butt in gear and order one then!

Guess I will have to start shopping for accesories to pass the time and alleviate the anticipation.

Welcome to the Forum.

I would suggest that you speak directly with Eric Rohrbaugh, place your order with him, pay for the little masterpiece through your local FFL, and then select and order your holster while you wait.  Three to four months is not a long time to wait for a Rohrbaugh.  Those fortunate few of us with the earliest serial numbers waited happily, if impatiently, in line for two years or so.

shelb,

Welcome to the forum.

Just to clarify -- there are no "approved" dealers.  The list on the Rohrbaugh Firearms site is just a list of dealers who had already placed orders.  Any dealer can order for you.  Those listed on the website *might* potentially have guns already on order that are not accounted for -- but I would doubt it.

Look at my "Waiting for Rohrbaugh" thread.  That is exactly what I am doing.  If the gun takes too much longer (two months wait so far), I will go broke!

I may need to buy another gun just to keep my mind occupied!

Thanks for the information.

So I guess I should buy a new gun to appease the impulse for the waiting period   :D

Kind of like a snack when I am really hungry for dinner!

That's about it - but - care with pocket book and ... never snack too much, lest the appetite is spoiled! :)

Just think of it as making reservations far in advance at the finest restaurant in the city.  And keep telling yourself -- and anyone who would question your judgment, "I deserve it."

I may end up having to make reservations at the finest resaurant in the city once my wife finds out I ordered an R9S for myself while she is still carrying the Kel Tec!  :D

I think she'll end up 'deserving' one just like me  ;)

In my case, it took a new leather couch to "balance the books" after I purchased the R9s.

Good luck!
