Another reassembly tool for the spring
« on: October 22, 2005, 03:57:41 PM »
I went to an Ace Hardware store today to get 1.5 inch angle aluminum to make the famous Skyhook tool.

They only had 1.0 inch (on each side).

I happened to find some plastic pliers in their tool department and they may be perfect for the spring.  It would mean that you only use plastic against the spring assembly.

Mine are yellow, but others are blue.  It only cost $5.00 plus.  They should be extra easy to find.

It is called 2" Quick-Grip Handi-Clamp, and is Part No. 59200 manufactured by American Tool Companies.

Here is a picture.

Hi Tom,

I have to wait until Tuesday when we get back home.

It looks like it may do  OK.

That looks like it may work great for the tough ones..I wondered to myself if a clamp would work ???And there we go- someone is going to try it!!

One pup is easy for me to do this part by hand, the other is not as easy though..Have not taken down any others yet..

Thanks for the possibility Bill..

I mistakenly bought Irwin #58200 "Quik-Grip" spring clamps.
They may be a bit taught and small but look good enough
to give it a try; certainly better than by hand.

I had to guess about the size while in the store.  For all I know, two inches may be too small.

Maybe, maybe not but there isn't much downside and
it's not a bad little device anyway. After using my spring
clamp as a hand exerciser for awhile it's up to 2 1/4 " and
has loosened up a bit.
