Hey everybody,
Check out this map of Rohrbaugh Forum members:
http://www.frappr.com/rohrbaughforum
I am asking everyone to take a second and add themselves. No personal info is required to sign up. Use your forum name so we can easily tell who is who. Lets get a handle on where everyone is located.
-
Duane, really cool, to be able to see on a map everyones place. Thanks!!
Did you ever get your new wheels yet?
Tom
-
Yep, cool map!
Tom -- at the risk of drifting this thread a bit -- I decided against the Hummer H3 and cancelled the order before it came in. My wife decided she really wanted an SUV and I decided we didn't need two. Of course, having her truck available when needed (to haul the kayaks, Home Depot trips, etc.) freed me up to go all the way to the other end of the spectrum...
My first two-door sports car since I was 17! ;D

-
That's a fine looking car. Excellent choice.
Bill
-
WOW!!!!!! it fits your style
Tom
-
Duane:
That would appear to be a 2005 Infiniti G35 V6 Sports Coupe with 298 horses under the hood and 6 gears to keep them motivated. I like it!
-
Close, Richard. It is a 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe 5AT, not 6MT. I opted for the 5-speed auto.
In the auto, it only generates 280 hp. ;) However, a slight flick of the wrist and the addition of a "Z-Tube", the air intake box from the Nissan 350Z (same motor), will restore the shackled beast to its full, unadulterated 298 horse glory.
Frankly, I have to keep opening the hood and counting the cylinders. It sounds and feels like a 5 liter V-8 to me. ;D
-
Put myself on the map.. ;)
Cool idea!! 8)
Go Michigan!!!
Nice wheels Duane-enjoy..Watch out for those tickets though!! ;)
Brenden
-
I tried to add myself to the map. Nothing happened.
-
Capt - if you fill in name zip, a comment and if needed a pic from your puter and hit ''add me'' it should take that and place a marker.
Duane - great idea - like it. Interesting thus far we are all to East of an approx center line!!! Mind you - from habit because my main handle - added as P95Carry but hey - most folks I think know by now that R9SCarry and P95Carry are same fella ;)
Nice wheels BTW - KEWL :)
-
Gator:
The members of the Forum seem to be signing in, and the map appears to be growing. If you have the patience to handle the editing, should the link be locked and placed at the top of the index for "posterity"?
-
One thought - tho it may not matter too much - I expect any non-members could also go place their marker.
Not really a prob cos I guess it still gives us all interested parties :)
-
I was happy to participate and think it is a Super idea.
The Internet being what it is, with the ever present need for caution, I was reluctant to provide identifying information which could be seen by people outside the board.
I'm sure many of us were.
I was able to name an approximate location by picking a zip code in the general part of the state.
This is a difficult idea to implement. Frankly, I could think of no better technique than Zip code. It does the job very neatly.
Thanks again, Duane.
-
Okay, it worked this time. That's me hiding behind Brenden. The only thing I did differently was add a "shout-out".
-
Capt,
I was wondering who that was!! ;)
I may not be looking in the right spot but how does one edit their shoutout?? ???
Thanks..
Brenden

Duane (DDGator),
This is really a great idea. I've used this Google map feature before. What is really neat is that you can click on the Satellite or Hybrid button and then click on one of the red ballons for one of us (try mine, EdMan, in Cincinnati). Then zoom in with the slider bar on the upper left. You get a satellite image of the area. That's not my house, it's actually the middle of my postal zip code area. I live about a mile and a half to the southwest in the large forested area you see. Hold down your left mouse button with the pointer anywhere on the map then move your mouse. The map view will slide under you as if you were flying over it. The closest I can tell these are satellite images from about 1-2 years ago, at least for Cincinnati. It may be different for other areas. Not all areas show high detail, but most major metro areas do. Sorry to be so long winded, but I thought this info was worth sharing. I feel it brings the Rohrbugh "family" closer together when you can see the actual detail of areas were we all live.
Thanks Duane, keep up the great work!
-
Glad you mentioned that Ed - had not thought to explore it - will now try a fly-over of one or two of you guys - so if you hear a supersonic boom - it's me ;D
-
Hey R9SCarry. Ya about 8pm I thought I heard you fly over. Did you see me waving up at you? I just flew over your area there east of Pittsburgh PA. It looks likes a nice area. I was in stealth mode so I wouldn't wake anyone up. ;D
-
Hooray! We have west coast balance in Corona--must
be one slippery dude.
-
I notice a conspicuous absence of female contributors;
Are you out there as proud owner?
-
tracker, I seem to remember a lady reporting in before.
-
I accidently added the name twice, thinking it was like an Edit, rather than Add.
Do we know how to remove a duplicate entry?
-
Ahaha - so we have some West at last eh!
Indeed we are severely short of the ladies - tho yes I do recall one or two joining a ways back.
Ed - your stealth worked - never heard a thing :D
-
Great, I must have missed her. There are many female
CCW owners here in Texas and I had to believe there
were some who owned RB's. If not, there is a marketing
void.
-
Come on folks, some of you are still missing!
Didn't many of the R-9 trucks make it past Texas?
-
This is very cool indeed! On another note, what's the big deal in worrying about listing your "handle and zip code". I mean that just by having a CCW big brother knows who and where you are already.
-
I just figured it out..
-
Same ?
Am I missing how to edit??? ???
Thanks !!!
Brenden
-
I can't figure out how to Edit, and ended up with two entries.
Has anyone been able to Delete an item?
-
Oh No..
2 Bills!!! ;) ;D
Well at least that is one more for the MI ranks!! ;) :o
Brenden
I also signed up to be notified when someone "joined" and have not been notified.. ???
Learning curve.. ;)
-
tracker, there are 2 females in Texas with R9s, however, they are not in the forum. I have told them about it, we will see.
Tom
-
On the map issue -- there doesn't appear to be a way to edit. (This is a beta version, so maybe that will change). As the admin of this group, I can delete people and you can start over again. Let me know by PM if you want to be deleted.
On the female members issue -- We will have a tough time with this. Many things work against us. Men are much more "into" guns. Even women who carry guns arent as likely to be very interested in the "hobby" aspect. Women are also under-represented on internet forums and discussion groups generally. :-/
-
women do a lot of girl talk but are not likely to wander
into " testosterone central "; can't say I would be a warm
fuzzy on the flip side either, though. I would certainly
welcome their comments.
-
I can't beleive more Ohioians (aka Buckeyes), who own Rohrbaugh pistols, are not showing up on the map. Our brothers to the north, in my previous home state of Michigan (Wolverines), are really putting us to shame.

Ed
Ed,
I am sure that they will be checking in sometime!!
Went from a Wolverine to a Buckeye!! :o
I feel for you.. ;) ;D

Hi Brenden,
Thanks for the sympathy. Cincinnati is a pretty good city. It’s only about 5 years behind the rest of the nation instead of the 10 years behind it was when I first moved here in 1976. The violent crime rate is lower than inner city Detroit’s, where I was brought up and worked, but it is increasing rapidly. I’m glad that Ohio finally passed a concealed carry law that allows us honest citizens to legally protect ourselves and loved ones, even if it has some very stupid rules (like having to have your hand gun in plain sight while in a vehicle).
Buckeye: A large NUT from a Buckeye tree.
Wolverine: The wolverine is powerfully built and is well adapted to living in the cold. It has very strong jaws that can bite through frozen meat and bone. It is known for its physical strength and sharp, accurate hunting skills. A beast of great ferocity, cunning, and extraordinary strength.
What can I say? I’m still a Wolverine at heart. So I guess I’m a “nutty” wolverine. Or is that a ferocious nut? ;) :D
Ed
-
Ed,
I've always had fond memories of Cincinnati, having gone there for IBM Computer schools.
I remember those wonderful plates of 3-way chili, spaghetti, and onions. Taxi rides up to Mount Adams. Jim's Bar where you could throw peanut shells on the floor, just like the dude ranches in Bandera, TX.
And, of course, I always had to stop at the US Air Force museum in Dayton. And eventually get over to Montgomery for some ribs.
Bill
-
Duane,
This is a great idea. I'm in! By the way, Super car! Good luck and enjoy.
Mike
-
Bill,
Please? It took me awhile to understand that’s what Cincinnatians say when they don’t hear you. It took me awhile but I got to like the 3, 4 and 5 way Cincinnati chili, and Goetta. I guess Cincinnati is my home now since I’ve lived here for almost 30 years, and I've raised my kids here. I’m glad you enjoyed your time here.
P.S. I took a lot of my AT&T/Lucent/AVAYA computer training in Colorado. I really loved it out there.
Ed
-
Ed,
I went to Denver twice to computer schools or conferences, and really enjoyed the place.
I'm an old IBM assembly language programmer, and could never quite get used to 'C'.
Bill
-
...peanut shells on the floor in Bandera, TX...(town one county over from my hometown in TX...) Always been impressed by anyone who can convince someone to pay them for the privilege of working on a ranch -- they have cowboy "fat camps" now -- stretch barb wire, etc and pay quite a bit to do so...
-
Brad,
Texas is one of my favorite places. Someday, I hope to take my wife on a long tour around the state. It would take a long time, but be worth every minute.
I was taking flying lessons at Hondo, TX and went to a couple of bars at Bandera. I meant to say "bars" rather than "dude ranches".
It was the first time I'd seen patrons encouraged to throw peanut shells on the floor. Now in old age, it seems like a fire hazzard.
Bill
-
If you really want to get away from everything go to Utopia, Texas. They have no mayor & etc or police. No city government at all.
Bill come on down and see Texas, come in the winter and get out of the snow. Bring a rifle and hunt an exotic!
Tom
-
Thank you, Tom. Sounds like a great idea.
-
Bill,
I thought that with my time in the US Air Force, and with my wife working for American Airlines, that I had traveled a lot. But I think you have me beat. Have you ever been over seas? Bellle Isle in Detroit doesn't count. ;) ;D
Ed
-
Ed, I have traveled only a little, compared to the guys here.
Never been overseas, although I did run the Detroit Marathon (26.2 miles) that started in Windsor, Canada and ended on Belle Isle in Detroit.
Just for kicks, I caclulated all the time being out of town to IBM computer schools, and it came to 6 months of work days. Now that is a lot of time and money.
I'm waiting for my wife to retire, and then will hit the road occasionally, if we still have any money left after buying that pistol. :D
That would be something to travel all you wanted with American Airlines. I hope you can still have that after everybody retires.
Bill
-
Being a Texas resident I would prefer the Bandera, Boerne,
Utopia area because they are unique and well situated next to
other nice spots like Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and San
Antonio. A friend of mine bought an adobe house in Marfa
and thinks that is paradise; haven't been there yet but it
is remote--close to Alpine where Virgil Tripp is located.
-
tracker, as soon as I get rich, I'm going to Kerrville and buy a brand new Mooney airplane, even if it only sits in my family room.
I'm just miserable with envy because you and Skyhook get to fly airplanes.
You guys should have to pay extra taxes. :D
-
Bill,
You're really going to be depressed when I tell you about
my free travel privileges with AMR; life just isn't fair, is it?
Truth be known I had just as soon stay home except to
go see my Granddaughter in New York.
-
tracker, I really was thinking about being a pilot, and doing the actual flying.
A few years ago, I made an appointment with my doctor to get a medical (student license), and get back into enjoying flying. The day of the appointment, his grandson was injured on the golf course, and my appointment was cancelled. I never rescheduled. Now in retirement, perhaps it's better to minimize risks.
I got to join the Caterpillar Club one day, and recognize that excitement is possible.
Meanwhile, having access to free travel is pretty nice, too.
-
Know what you mean about pushing, pulling, yanking, banking,
etc.. Even though I haven't flown in 4 years the old itch is
starting to come back--still keep the physical up when the
mood strikes. It is very close. The new light biz-jets on the
horizon have me thinking about how to separate some banks
from their excess funds.

To save folks going back to page 1 - here is the link as a reminder for new thread visitors (typo's corrected!)

Ahhh - flying - how I wish I'd got it all done years ago - but hey - I love my models and actually get a heck of a kick doing my aerobatics. This fella in the pic is not I hasten to add my prime aerobat!! - but it sure looks purdy in the air (1/4 scale Sopwith Pup).
(http://www.acbsystems.com/boards/thr/img_assd/pup-05-s.jpg)
-
That's a beautiful sight, Chris. The hobby must bring considerable pleasure to you.
I always enjoy being around model flying. It's a great spectator sport, too.
Sometime, please post more pictures. They would all be fun to see.
-
Thx Bill - I do get a huge kick out of my flying. With that, shooting and biking, I consider I am fortunate with my interests.
If others will forgive further indulgence here is another plane - Ryan STA - real old style plane from way back re the design - again a quarter scale. One or two other pics may appear later when I find them.
(http://www.acbsystems.com/boards/thr/img_assd/ryan-01-s.jpg)
-
That would be my favorite. It reminds me of the airplane Lindbergh flew with his wife through out the orient.
I think it is at the Air Force museum in Dayton.
I think of him as The Last Great Hero.
Too bad he couldn't shut up about politics and isolationism. Otherwise, he had it made.
-
Did you ever play with the Microsoft Flight Simulator. It just tickles me ever time a new one comes out.
Our present day computers are pretty fast, and it is very smooth.
Sometimes, when I bank excessively, it pulls you down hard into the seat. If you jam the stick forward, I get red eyes from the negative Gs. :D
In real life, I never could do a barrel roll. Had no idea about what was going on.
-
The only simulator I used Bill - some ways back was ''Real Flight'' which is for RC - you can fly from ground but also be ''in the plane''.
I found it handy for trying some manouvers early on when I switched to power and wanted to do aerobatics. Virtual wrecking was painless!!
I am currently trying to perfect my four point rolls and slow rolls plus - stay knife-edge to do a whole circuit. Always something to try or practice and so - never boring at all :)
-
Hey, I loved the car photo ... great looking photo, but where to you mount the winch ... 4wd ... just kidding! What an excellent design!
One of the latest filght sims is x-plane 8. It actually simulates what I was trained in back in the late 1960's. My gosh, am I beginning to sound like my dearly departed father or is it just "middle age". Great RC photos as well; sorry I have none to post, I just sold my Icarus 8 electric helo ... nice to fly even indoors!
Always interesting reading on this forum!
mefly2
-
mefly2, I checked out the x-plane 8. That's pretty amazing stuff. The scenery was very impressive.
Thanks for mentioning the x-plane.
Bill
-
I'm downloading the X-Plane 8.20 right now. They are having a temporary sale of $39.00 if you want the CD. Most likely the sale also applies to the download. The regular $50 price will resume shortly.
It is 546.5 megabytes and is estimated to take about two hours. If it is not purchased, this will remain a demo until you buy it.
Not a good candidate for a dial-up connection.
Bill
-
http://www.fan-tasticmodels.com/muller.wmv
All radio control stick jockeys take a peek at this one.
-
It's a miracle. I didn't know such things were possible.
-
A lot of talent, skill, practice, and youthful reflexes.
-
I hope he scored first.
Tom
-
Without a doubt; he was probably doing a demo; who
could challenge that performance?
-
I was surprised he could accelerate in vertical flight. Maybe it was some super lightweight material which must be flown indoors because of the calm air.
I bought a nice Prism brand kite to play with, the kind which has two lines. So far, it's just been one big tangle of string. :)
-
The modern ''foamies'' are very good for this - the advent of the brushless motor too has meant great power to weight, plus Lithium batteries.
In fact the tricks are quite easy (not to take away the kid's skills!) and I try this stuff outdoors with gas motor planes - which unfortunately being heavy - fall a tad quicker if mistakes made!
Good performance tho - one of these lil' fella's can be yours all in for approx $200 or so IIRC.
I have a boatload of vid clips of full size aerobatics as well as 1/3 scale stuff too - wish I had links to point you folks to them but they are all on my HDD. Some superb stuff.
Thx for the link tracker.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bill - just saw your last post. Yes, these are foam sheet construction - VERY light and servo's are miniature etc. The brushless motors allow enough power that thrust can well exceed plane's weight and so hover vertical is a cinch - tho a lot of adjustment of control surfaces needed to maintain it. Usually a lot of rudder tweaks plus enough aileron to compensate for motor torque.
-
Shoot, that was a lot of fun! Why didn't I notice this thread earlier? :)
-
iT BECAME A tHREAD WITHIN A THREAD.
Don't you just HATE that 'Shift key'?
-
tHAT rj WAS NOT THE sHIFT - IT WAS THE DARNED cAPS lOCK ;D
If you set ''accessibility options'' in windows, you can get a blerep when that is hit - helps me to know when I have hit it in error.
-
Thanks, I get *STUCK on STUPID*, and can't get anything right..
tHANKS rJ= ;D
-
Great idea Duane, Map is very interesting , Not to many New York owners lots of Red Tape I suppose.
-
JimmyD, can I help you get a R9s? Send me a PM.
Tom
