Ed, I have traveled only a little, compared to the guys here.

Never been overseas, although I did run the Detroit Marathon (26.2 miles) that started in Windsor, Canada and ended on Belle Isle in Detroit.

Just for kicks, I caclulated all the time being out of town to IBM computer schools, and it came to 6 months of work days.  Now that is a lot of time and money.

I'm waiting for my wife to retire, and then will hit the road occasionally, if we still have any money left after buying that pistol.   :D

That would be something to travel all you wanted with American Airlines.  I hope you can still have that after everybody retires.

Bill

Being a Texas resident I would prefer the Bandera, Boerne,
Utopia area because they are unique and well situated next to
other nice spots like Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and San
Antonio. A friend of mine bought an adobe house in Marfa
and thinks that is paradise; haven't been there yet but it
is remote--close to Alpine where Virgil Tripp is located.

tracker, as soon as I get rich, I'm going to Kerrville and buy a brand new Mooney airplane, even if it only sits in my family room.

I'm just miserable with envy because you and Skyhook get to fly airplanes.

You guys should have to pay extra taxes.    :D

Bill,
You're really going to be depressed when I tell you about
my free travel privileges with AMR; life just isn't fair, is it?
Truth be known I had just as soon stay home except to
go see my Granddaughter in New York.

tracker, I really was thinking about being a pilot, and doing the actual flying.

A few years ago, I made an appointment with my doctor to get a medical (student license), and get back into enjoying  flying.  The day of the appointment, his grandson was injured on the golf course, and my appointment was cancelled.  I never rescheduled.  Now in retirement, perhaps it's better to minimize risks.

I got to join the Caterpillar Club one day, and recognize that excitement is possible.

Meanwhile, having access to free travel is pretty nice, too.

Know what you mean about pushing, pulling, yanking, banking,
etc.. Even though I haven't flown in 4 years the old itch is
starting to come back--still keep the physical up when the
mood strikes. It is very close. The new light biz-jets on the
horizon have me thinking about how to separate some banks
from their excess funds.

That's a beautiful sight, Chris.  The hobby must bring considerable pleasure to you.

I always enjoy being around model flying.  It's a great spectator sport, too.

Sometime, please post more pictures.  They would all be fun to see.

Thx Bill - I do get a huge kick out of my flying.  With that, shooting and biking, I consider I am fortunate with my interests.

If others will forgive further indulgence here is another plane - Ryan STA - real old style plane from way back re the design - again a quarter scale.  One or two other pics may appear later when I find them.

That would be my favorite.  It reminds me of the airplane Lindbergh flew with his wife through out the orient.

I think it is at the Air Force museum in Dayton.

I think of him as The Last Great Hero.

Too bad he couldn't shut up about politics and isolationism.  Otherwise, he had it made.

Did you ever play with the Microsoft Flight Simulator.  It just tickles me ever time a new one comes out.

Our present day computers are pretty fast, and it is very smooth.

Sometimes, when I bank excessively, it pulls you down hard into the seat.  If you jam the stick forward, I get red eyes from the negative Gs.  :D

In real life, I never could do a barrel roll.  Had no idea about what was going on.

The only simulator I used Bill - some ways back was ''Real Flight'' which is for RC - you can fly from ground but also be ''in the plane''.

I found it handy for trying some manouvers early on when I switched to power and wanted to do aerobatics.  Virtual wrecking was painless!!

I am currently trying to perfect my four point rolls and slow rolls plus - stay knife-edge to do a whole circuit.  Always something to try or practice and so - never boring at all :)

Hey, I loved the car photo ... great looking photo, but where to you mount the winch ... 4wd ... just kidding!  What an excellent design!

One of the latest filght sims is x-plane 8.  It actually simulates what I was trained in back in the late 1960's.  My gosh, am I beginning to sound like my dearly departed father or is it just "middle age". Great RC photos as well; sorry I have none to post, I just sold my Icarus 8 electric helo ... nice to fly even indoors!

Always interesting reading on this forum!

mefly2, I checked out the x-plane 8.  That's pretty amazing stuff.  The scenery was very impressive.

Thanks for mentioning the x-plane.

I'm downloading  the X-Plane 8.20 right now.  They are having a temporary sale of $39.00 if you want the CD.  Most likely the sale also applies to the download.  The regular $50 price will resume shortly.

It is 546.5 megabytes and is estimated to take about two hours.  If it is not purchased, this will remain a demo until you buy it.

Not a good candidate for a dial-up connection.
