Clip-on belt holster?
« on: July 24, 2009, 01:05:37 PM »
Does anyone make a clip-on belt holster for the R9?  Outside the waistband.  I'm looking for a holster to wear on the weak side and use cross-draw while seated in the car, so a clip-on belt holster would do the trick.  Fast on, fast off is also important hence the clip.  Mitch Rosen sells a clip-on but he says he cannot make it for the little R9.  He sells other holsters for the R9 so he has the capability - something about the size and shape of the R9 not working well with the clip-on holster he sells.

I'd like to get in the car, clip it on the weak side grip forward, and be able to cross-draw with the strong hand.  And I'd like to be able to take it off without having to remove my belt.

Thanks.

That's a good idea; I did that with a Glock 36 for awhile when I
was driving late at night. I don't know of anyone who makes that
configuration for the R9. I used a Don Hume for the Glock but it
doesn't appear they make anything for the R9.

Check with David at D.M. Bullard, he lists a cross draw for small autos but it has belt loops, but he may be able to do something with clips.

I asked and Robert with mecopocketholsters.com - he says "No, problem" - he doesn't have any pic on his site - but he has made custom ordered OWB with a clip on request.

Thank you, I send Meco an email and will let you know what I end up getting. Still looking around trying to find a picture of such a holster.  It should be a small holster with no wings.  To be honest all a holster maker will have to do is add the clip on the back of one of their small holsters.  Done.

Mine is an IWB crossdraw and since you asked about OWB so I didn't post pics of mine -but it would look about the same (except he is using what he considers a better clip now).

Very nice; not that you are trying to compare the two but my
thought is that the best for in the car carry is the OWB weak side
cross draw. Some people store their gun in a convenient, access-
ible place when they are driving but there is some wisdom  to
having it on the body in case the driver and the vehicle become
separated.

That's why I want a cross draw OWB clip-on when I'm in the car.  I usually keep a weapon in the center armrest but that's too far away and it takes too long to get it into my hand.  Not long ago I was sitting at a stop light at night and someone managed to walk right up to my drivers side window not 12 inches away.  I never saw them approach the car.  Luckily I had the window up, I always keep the doors locked, and they were harmless.  But if I were looking at a gun barrel that night or some other threat - that weapon in the arm rest would have been useless.  I'd like to be more prepared from now on.

You're right on target; speed and weapon accessibility when
driving a vehicle can be a top priority, not to mention retention.
Pocket carry does not get the job done while driving or in a
sitting position.

I would recommend meco holsters as well.  I just received two great looking Armigators and only waited about three weeks.
Workmanship is topnotch!  And Robert is easy to deal with.

Thanks Robert!

What tracker said.  I've been taking mine out of the pocket and laying it in the seat while driving; not liking that at all.

The cross-draw clip holster is good.

Try Jim at www.hiddenholsters.net.

He was more than willing to accommodate me when he first started, and I imagine he's still doing business that way.

Just received the clip-on holster from Meco.  I'll use it as a cross-draw (left side) on-top-of-the-belt holster.  Seems well-made with a good fit.  In a month or two I'll post back and give you my impressions.

That looks like a very efficient car packing holster.
