How to Carry a 2nd Magazine
« on: July 07, 2005, 11:30:16 AM »
For light weight civilian dress, those of you that carry the R9, do you carry a 2nd mag?  How? Where? Any suggestions?

(My pockets are filling up with stuff like wallet, keys, pepper spray, eyeglasses, etc.)

I always carry a second magazine in one of RJ's magazine cases.  I keep it in my weak-side back pocket. It is the only thing I carry in that pocket.

I carry in my offside pocket like described above.  If you want to carry on a belt, the relatively small size of the magazine would allow you to use a variety of different pouches that would be non-descript -- if you are casually dressed.

I recognize that the R-9 is not the speediest gun to reload, so I am not troubled by the time it might take to retrieve the spare mag from my pocket.   If 7 rounds of premium 9mm don't work, I better be looking for cover to reload.

>>Thing is with pocket carry...especially if you are talking back pocket, or front along with other pocket clutter...I have had the feed lips on one mag get compressed to the point of adversely affecting function of the unit.  I tend to be hard on equipment that way...which is one reason why I always try to buy the best and strongest things in life.

I have and like one of RJ's R9 mag holders...which he graciously made up for me when I purchased a USED R9 Hedley holster from another forum member (what a guy that Headly critter is...!!).  However, the mag I had the feed lips "crushed" in was cosied up in that mag holder **sigh**.

I like the looks of K-man's belt holder...and would like to brain storm other ways of play and designs of mag holders for both convenience and protection **think, think, think**...TW<<

>>Hi RJ...

At this point I'm not even sure which pocket I had the mag holder in, but I suspect it was in the left front pocket of my pants...or it could have been in the left cargo-type pocket of one of my vests.  Were it was is not that important.  What happened was that a lot of pressure was put on that pocket...might even have happened by me sitting on the garment when I took it off.  The result was that the feed lips of the magazine were pressed closer together rendering the clip unusable.  Please know that I am not complaining about your mag pouch in any way.  I would confidently buy another any day.  Your products are great...!...TW<<
