Title: R9 Porting
Post by: M380 on April 24, 2009, 08:50:03 AM
I talked to Rohrbaugh today, and they told me Karl recommends "NOT" porting the R9 9mm. He said, he had tried it, and it really made no difference in taming this pup. Anyone care to comment who has had the porting done?

As far as I know there have been two R9 port jobs done other than what Mr. Rohrbaugh had.  One (my safe queen) worked great and the other one has not worked out great.  Last I heard it was having major problems getting it to cycle.  Mine has not had problems and as far as making a difference in taming the pup's recoil goes I can tell a BIG difference.  I can see why the factory would not recommend it though.  It's louder, flings gas/powder out the ports and catches lots of pocket lint.  I have no regreats in having my custom one ported.

I have a ported Glock 22c and the .40 is WAY more controllable than my Glock 19 9mm with similar ammo.

I don't think there is an issue with whether a ported gun is more
controllable than a non-ported gun.
