Farmingdale R9s R163 value??
« on: January 05, 2011, 08:30:38 PM »
So is my R9s a collector's gun or an everyday carry.
I love it, but should I just put it in the vault and get another?

That would be my inclination. Is that R163 or R163S?

I'm thinking personal preference.  I know of a couple Forum members here that carry early, early, Farmingdales with the no "R" prefix.  They're very happy doing that; just a personal thing.

Put it in the vault. R9S is rarer than no R prefix.

radioman,
    Welcome to the group.
It can be either #132 has been an everyday carry for 6 1/2 years.
To carry or not is a personal choice, if your into safe queens get a new one and stash it away if not carry it with pride.
There are at three Farmingdales for sale right here on the forum with no takers yet. (#R191 - R138 - R221)

John.  Be sure to put an R in front of those numbers, R191, R138 and R221; the 132 does not have an R.  Very important.    ;)

Bill asked a question and wanted an answer: based on the very rare R9S vs. a less rare no "R" designation I advised him to keep it unused, if that is the case.

You're right.  The R9s on the slide is rare.  There were some no "R" prefix with the R9s on the slide also.  Richard's 132 is one and #120.  There may have been others.

My thoughts

Trade it to me for a less "collectable" one so you won't feel bad about having it in your pocket!  ;D

At times the early Farmingdale guns are hard to come by and seem to be worth more than new production guns.  At other times they don't seem to sell at all.

I think its a nice and would put it up.

" based on the very rare R9S vs. a less rare no "R" designation"  I'm not certain that the no "R" is less rare than the "S" marked slide.  I think (yep, think) ALL the sited pre-R guns have a "S" marked slide and I know there are quite a few "R" prefix serial number guns with the "S" marked slide also.  That being said they are both VERY rare in the big picture.

Well, just so they're both rare.  Here's another no "R" with the R9s on the slide, sighted.

kj,
Are you happy now. :D ;D

It is important to have it correct so not to confuse the issue.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Radioman I also want to congratulate you on beating several (me too) of us to it in buying your R9 back in September from Long Island Shooting Center.

Is it still NEW or have you shot it?
