NEW R9s Owner Questions
« on: November 02, 2005, 08:28:42 PM »
I ordered my R9s from a dealer and I will receive it tomorrow.
I can't wait.  To this point all I have owned are Sigs.

1.  What ammo is Rec?  In my sig I shoot Win white box at the range and carry Gold Dot 124
2.  Is there anything I need to do prior to shooing?  Disassemble, clean, etc.
3.  What pocket holster do you rec., where to buy, and what is a good price?
4.  What cleaner and oil do you rec.?
5.  Are there any special break in procedures?
6.  Is it OK/safe to carry 6+1

thanks again and can't wait to shoot this weekend I willl let everyone know how I like it.

Welcome, 124 gold dot standard or 115 is ok, clean and lube before         , 6+1 is ok, RJ Hedley pocket holster is the benchmark, shoot it and have fun. ::) :o ;D

Welcome to the forum, lexasgs400.  You will be very pleased with the new pistol.

Rohrbaugh has recommended SuperLube and Mobil 1 0W-30 oil.

Many of us believe you can substitute other high-quality lubricants.

I will comment on just a few... leave the rest to others.

Pocket holsters are very much a personal thing.  We have no less than 4 great holster makers that participate on this board.  For leather, we have (in alphabetical order  ;)):

Matt DelFatti: http://www.delfatti.com
RJ Hedley:  www.hedleyholsters.com
Kevin at K&D Holsters: http://www.kdholsters.com

K&D is a sponsor of this forum and their ad link appears in the rotation above.

For kydex, we have David Brown: www.buybrownholsters.com

You can't go wrong with any of these guys -- lots of satisfied customers here from all.  My only caveat on the above is that Matt has a pretty long wait for his stuff -- his website will tell you the current wait.

The R-9 is perfect for pocket carry.  You should definitley get a pocket holster.

Definitely carry 6+1 -- that is what it was designed to do.

Welcome to the Forum!

lexas - welcome to the board :)

May I suggest - you may find some info of interest on my small FAQ site (see my sig line) - there are links there too to some testing I did a while back.  Nothing ultra scientific but - food for thought anyways.

I did BTW add a coupla things to the FAQ - the pics of my grip method, in case it helps folks decide what works for them - and also the pic sequence of my mag' in and out method.  Again - not definitive but hopefully helps a few.

Ed - thanks - for your thanks :)
