Nice gun.  I have passed on a few Pythons over the years.  Every time I pass on it, it gains another few hundred dollars in value.

LOL ~ Yea, funny how that works. When I was a youngster growing up, I saw the house our parents paid $10,990.00 for brand new in 1955. When I wanted to buy one in the early 1970s, the same house was now around $37,500.00! I said that's baloney, I'll wait until it goes down, thinking like a car that devalues over time, unless it turns into a collectible item. So, here we are today and a few years ago, that same house that Karl and I grew up in sold for $359,000.00! WTH!? . . . . . I guess no one told us that houses just go up! lol.   Well, that's all I got for now folks. lol.   Enjoy your day!  ;-)

If only you had the money back then to buy a few houses and rent them out to cover the mortgage.  Mortgage on $10000 would have been about $80 per month.

Guns go up in value, but I always compare a gun's appreciation to the stock market.  I had a gun double in value, but the stock market went up 4x in the same time period, so I wasn't as impressed with the gun's value.  $1000 invested in Coke stock in 1963 would be worth $194,000 today if you reinvested the dividends.

  Yes,things go up.
When I came home on leave early 1968 I bought a brand new 1968 396/375 horse Chevy Chevelle
 for $3271.00.Yep,times change.
But on the other hand A brother of mine just out of engineering school paid I believe a couple hundred bucks for a calculator. That same calculator today is probably $15.00.

That phone is also a depreciating asset with planned obsolescence, but as you said it does have some present utilitarian value.
