Title: painted R9s
Post by: Texun on May 10, 2009, 04:06:49 PM
I am considering having my slide or pistol refinished in a stealthy camo pattern. Has anyone had their R9 painted? Please post a pic if so.

I had one hard chromed.  I've seen a post of a digital camo R9.  I will look and see if I can find it.

Not to my liking, but to each his own.

Texun,  Which R9 do you have?

I've looked at my R9 a whole lot since I got it a few months ago.  Mine is the Stealth as I like all black guns.  Before I got it I had heard of the Diamond Black finish, though I really didn't know what that was.  I figured it was some kind of hard blue finish.

Yesterday I happened to look at my R9 in the sunlight.  For a moment, I wasn't sure it was the same gun.  The entire finish burst with every color of the rainbow.  It was as if the surface was covered with microscopic diamonds.  Hence the name.

I would not consider refinishing an R9, unless there was a problem with the factory finish (IMO).  Although, I have considered refinishing my Springfield XD in digital cammo.

instead of sending money to paint an R9s, I would spend that money on ammo.  Tom

Thanks, everyone. I guess I can never leave a firearm alone, but I will try on this one. Mine has the stainless slide. It's a nice little pistol, and yes, I need to take it out and practice.

That is good advice from The Irish Guard; by my rough
calculations the price of gold dot has gone from 25 cents a
round to $1.25 each in about three years. Not too many
investments have done that well in the same time frame.

Found 3 boxes of Gold Dots 124 gr. 9mm, 20rds for $20.00 a box today at our local gun shop.  I also noticed that the supply of .32 ACP has dried up.  Gun shop had none.  I've only found one place on the Internet that has any and it's fmj.

Whoops!  Sorry, this has nothing to do with a painted R9, but got excited when I found the 3 boxes of Gold Dots.

I do like my R9s the way it is; personal preference.
