Just for openers, it is not the first s/n with "R9s" inscribed on the slide.
-
FIRST, (lol) I count eight inaccuracies with that posting. Nice gun but its priced NOT to sell in todays market.
1) Serial Number R176... WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT? It was the FIRST Rohrbaugh that was manufactured and distributed after all the kinks were worked out of the first 175 that were manufactured. (ha-ha)
2) It is the FIRST one that was distributed with sites, (nope)
3) and be identified by the R9s. (nope)
4) It is also the FIRST to have the brushed aluminum color with the brown lower, (brown?)
5) along with the FIRST to have graphite grips. (graphite?)
6) This is truly a one of a kind! (nope)
7) Verification of the above can be confirmed by contacting ROHRBAUGH.COM - (no such thing)
8 ) The case is not original.
EDIT
9) There were NOT 175 guns before R176

People who buy these guns for collector value should have bought gold coins.
-
Probably would have done better even with Silver. ;D

These are two I didn't imagine, but that's good! :D

Not good in my book, it just means that our dollar is worth less and less.
-
Just don't plan a trip to Switzerland.
-
My wife is actually stressing over our vacation after the next vacation. (I let her plan the vacations , then I work out the Details) . She loves her vacations, usually she is (2) ahead. Now she is trying to decide between the German Alps (Switzerland, Italy, France etc) and Alaska.
Seeing the referance to Switzerland reminded me. It is funney watching her get upset over where to go on vacation ;D I keep reminding her how rough she has it ;D

Chief, In about a month I'm headed to Ireland for five weeks, Paris for twelve days and Rome for twelve days. I'll post some pics when I get back. ;D
-
Last weekend I went to Galveston and they didn't even have a Holiday Inn Express.
-
tracker I hate when that happens. ;D
-
It seems unusual to me that Karl Rohrbaugh would put a price on any R9 except the new ones he sells through his distributors.
-
Good luck with your sell. Please report back what the high bidder ends up paying, the info will help others here know the current value of similar guns they might have.
The market on these is WAY down from where it was last year.
On a side note: Its really hard to know the history of these early Rohrbaughs. They were only concerned with getting the best guns out they could at the time and not so much if the slide had the "s", frame color, barrel text font, mag weld, spring coil count, grip color etc...... I've owned 28 Rohrbaughs (21 of which were lower serial numbered than the one you have for sale) and have read and reread every post on this forum building the base of history I believe to be true about them. I don't clame to know it all and still learn new things about the early ones often.

$2500 is still in dreamland unless you catch a low flying Mallard.
-
I think that I would ask Karl to buy it if I were you.
-
Wishing you luck in the sale, Andy.
-
I hope you get the full price.
-
Mr. Rohrbaugh had this gun in his hand this year when he was giving me an ESTIMATED value. Of the 21 guns prior to this one, is there any of them that have the same configuration???
Yes, 3 were just like it except a lower serial number. The "s" marked slide on a "R" prefix gun is fairly rare.
-
The R176 has been relisted with Buy It Now, $2500.

Started at 2500 also.
Wish you well on your sale ,but,in this market,1500 would be "closer"to the mark IMO..
Welcome to the forum also..

I think even that's a reach - but at the end of the day, it's worth what someone will pay for it. I wish the seller luck.

That is true..
It may be a "reach",and the 1500 would be the top of the range, but it is a desireable gun,and if things were a bit different right now,I would make a run at it!! ;)
Once again to the OP,wish you well in your sale and sorry for the interruption..

There is an elite on Gunbroker for $1700

Is that a Rohrbaugh Elite, Chief? Is so, could you provide the link? I can't seem to find it on GunBroker. I'll keep looking though. Thanks.
-
It may have been sold. $1750 was the Buy now price

They have a store front as well, may have sold in the store.

It may be. If not, the seller may relist it. Thanks!

The Elite did not last long the second listing

-
$1500 is about right for the elite imo.

WOW! That did go fast!
-
Yes $1500 is a reasonable price to pay for a used gun that had a retail of $1295. The Rohrbaugh has alot of competition for the compact, high quality, 9mm market now.
Chief
-
It was "new in the box" but yes there are more competitors now for sure.
-
Not that it is relevant to current market value but the retail price of an R9 was $950, FOB Dallas, in 2004 and early 2005.
-
Retail for the Elite was $1295 as per Maria
Chief
-
There was no Elite then. I was just giving the price of a standard R9 as a point of reference.
-
You are correct, and the only thing I said was how much an Elite sold for.
Chief
-
Great, Andy. $1500 starting bid should get 'er done. Good luck!

He says that it was the 76th gun to be manufactured. Does anyone agree with that statement?
-
He says that it was the 76th gun to be manufactured. Does anyone agree with that statement?
Its high unlikely. Let's see
1,2,3...... Pre "R" serial number guns that were for owners, loved ones, investors ect. (total number of those not told on the forum)
100-147 Pre "R" serial number guns
Sevral custom serial numbered guns done at this time also
R100 - R175 serial numbered guns
My best guess is that frame number R176 was around the 140th - 150th one made. Who knows what order it was put together and shipped out. If it was 76th it would be pure coincidence.
It's still a nice early gun but I don't think the claim of it being the 76th gun is true.
-
I do not think he knows a great deal about Rohrbaughs, a good example was his thinking the were Graphite grips on it versus CF.

At least he is in the ballpark. Not sure that I would be comfortable sending my $$ to someone on GB who has no ratings - but wveryone has to start somewhere. I wish the seller luck getting it sold.
-
It did not bring the starting bid of $1500 either. This economy sucks. I still wish the seller well. Maybe tracker's idea of asking Karl to buy it at was not a bad idea after all. It may be an eye opener to him that it did not sell even when the starting bid was dropped to $1500 on the largest gun auction site in the world.
Unless you "need" money now I would just hold onto it for a while. A early NIB Farmingdale with blues and the "S" should bring at least $1500 IMO. Maybe the market will rebound, who knows.
-
Not made public. Why would that be?
I have no question of what you have. It's nice, its old, its just not $2500. Sorry
-
It would only be in line if you find someone interested in that particular gun and you can provide some supporting documentation signed by Karl or Eric.
-
You are correct in that the machining process was changed. It was changed after serial number 147 (no-R) was made. Then the R prefix serial number guns started over at 100. The R stood of Reinforced best I remember. If there was another machining process change, which there very well could have been, its the first I have herd of.
I still wish you the best in selling it. If your $2500 price was in line regardless of the economy it would have sold for that, it did not. It did not sell at $1500 either and I feel its because of the economy.
If you like I can have a third party break down a slightly lower serial number than R176 and a slightly higher serial number one and look for those differences you think are there.
-
If there is a unique machining change associated with R176 there may not be anyone willing to pay a premium for it. The market seems to have spoken on that issue, at least for now.
Even the "R9s" slide designation didn't sell it and that feature is more visible, rarer, and less abstruse than a machining process change.
-
Andy. Still wishing you the best, for sure!
-
Me, too.
-
Excellent!
-
The slide being Farmy and marked R9s is what makes the gun "interesting" IMO..Not a machining change, even if proven..
Continued luck on the sales front..
-
It seems that no matter what type of Rohrbaugh you have, selling any Rohrbaugh for $2500 is a massive challenge. As evidenced on Gunbroker many times. It could be that most people feel they just are not worth that amount of money. At that price level they are playing in the Wilson, Night Hawk, Ed Brown, et al , heady company to be trying to lure a buyer that would spend that much into buying a compact 9mm when there are quite a few out there for somewhat less money and equal quality. It is not the same market now as when the Rohrbaugh was first introduced and was fairly alone in it's position in the 9mm Market.
But I wish the seller good luck on his sale, but as we all know, it is only worth an amount if someone is willing to pay it.
