I own a R9, and have been also looking at a Colt Pocketnine, at a great price almost NIB!! anybody have any feedback on these Colts??? Were they reliable or are they just clunkers??? They are light but I need some feedback please!! Tx Dan
-
I have two and if R9's didn't exist the Colt Pocket nine would be my carry gun. The worst thing about them is the very heavy trigger pull, but with practice you can get used to it. I have found them to be great shooters, accurate and dependable. In todays market anything under $700, from what I've seen, is a decent deal. They are no longer made and in the future getting parts could be hard. Get plenty of mags as they are due to get scarce as well. :-/ 8) :D
-
I can buy one in very good cond, with one mag for around $ $575.00, also there is a Gunsmith in Florida, who takes off the beavertail and does some action work, springs, guiderod, etc...........hopefully making the trigger pull lighter, I have big hands is it much smaller then the "R9"??? Also will "magsafe" be ok in the gun,,,,,my R9 feeds it flawlessly......Thanks for your help. Dan
-
A little help, with the beaver tail cut flush with the slide, the P9 will be 5/8'' shorter than the R9..
The grip length is the same, but thicker both ways, across and front to back
No pictures.
-
RJ..............thanks for your help, I know the R9 is a little narrower then the P9, just was concerned on how reliable they were.......P.S. RJ sent you an email, what is your time frame on a new holster?? tx.Dan

Might you be interested in a great Colt Mustang...tricked out and with ten magazines, extra springs, couple sets of extra grips, and a cool Shark skin pocket holster...?...in swap towards that 'ol Pocket9 you were thinking about...? It may not be a Pony...but in my opinion a .380 just does not get much better than this Mustang...see...?...TW<<
-
I have all the little Colt's, Mustang, Mustang Pocketlite, Pony pocketlite, Mustang Plus Two, Colt Defender, and Pocket Nine. Of these the Pocket Nine is my favorite and the best shooter, plus its 9mm.
-
I might have bought a pony pocketlite today in 380, always wanted this gun, and a friend told me about one today unfired for $450.00..I was always told this gun was great and I know a lot of ex L.E. like me who love to carry this gun in South Florida.......If I do not buy the pocket nine I will give you the sellers info............wonder if RJ....can make me a pocket holster for the "PONY".or if you want to sell your sharkskin holster lket me know if it would fit......probably be better off with a new Hedley..........PS. some feedback on the "Pony"would be appreciated, Just ordered s/s guiderod, and wolf springs for the mags and gun??? Tx.Dan

TW>>>>>>>>>>>is the mustang a pocketlite?? or s/s, or blue........and this would not be an even swap but a partial trade...Dan
-
>>G-Dan --
My Mustang is SS with a special Nickel Teflon finish by RSR Wholesale. Internally the stamped out sear was swapped out for one of tool grade steel, and the factory guide rod was replaced with a full length steel version. All the springs were replaced with Wolffs and some work was done on the trigger as well.
I purchased the gun from the original owner who is a Police Officer. Seems it has served as his BUG over the last six or seven years...was carried a lot, shot very little = has 200-300 rounds through it. Besides ball ammo it apparently likes Silvertips...yum, yum. As mentioned before there are a bunch or extras including TEN mags...five are factory and some brand new...! Box and all original papers came with the gun.
I really wasn't looking to get rid of the Mustang...but for a nice Pocket 9 - I would give serious considerations. I have $525 (plus $62 for FFL this end = hurt me) into this gun, including the extras... which could easily double that value on the open market.
Geminidan...can you get any pics of the Pocket9 you are looking at...? Might you be serious about a possible trade on my Mustang...? Thoughts, please...?
Below is the pic of my Mustang and the extra grips which the former owner used in his ad...TW<<

>>Newt...
With all those little Colts you can be my best friend any time...lol...! One of these days I might take you up on that offer to visit you and try out some of those pups...likewise - you have an open invite to visit me in and around your Nations Capitol - I live on the Virginia palisades overlooking the Potomac...ten minutes from anywhere you might like to see around here. My gun club is 45 minutes north into Maryland.
If you would - tell me how you would compare the shooting of your Pocket-9s to an R9...?...or anything else for that matter...? Are you sure there isn't anything you might take in trade for one of those Niners...?...Tell me things...please...?<<
-
TW, The Pocket Nine is a percived lower recoil than the R9 for me maybe because of the Hogue grips or because the grips are fatter. It is very controllable and accurate but fatter and longer than the R9, just a little too big for pocket carry. It is close to the Glock 26. I have seen one melted by a good smith that looked good but no need to do this IMO with the R9 option. The Colt Pocket Nine is a fun gun to shoot and makes a good truck gun but I use a G26 for this due to the higher capacity.
-
Newt....can you tell me about a pony pocketlite??? how do they shoot etc.......Tx......Dan
-
The pony Pocket lite ,like the Pocket 9, has a heavy trigger pull which takes some getting used to. It is a nice little package but alas only 380.
-
Newt..........tx.I know it is only 380, just want it vs the seecamp 32 I carry at times......other then that I have the P9..bought the 380 today at 450.00cash NIB never fired.........will change some internals to make it it a better shooter,,,,Dan
-
NIB $450? You got a hell of a good deal! :o :o ;)

>>Hi G-Dan...
Congrats on the purchase on your new Pocket Light...! If you get any pics of your new jewel - post a couple...!! And I for one would be most interested in hearing about your initial impressions about the gun, firing cycle, ect.
Now about that Pocket Nine...? What's the story on that gem...?...TW<<
-
Bought it home and guess what,???? It is same size and weight of the R9.....so now what do I do??? thought it was lighter..............anyone want to buy this Pony???.....Dan
-
TW the Dealer who has the Pocket Nine I think has a deposit on it, gun is a little bulky, would not carry it instead of the R9........my dilemma is Now I like the pony....but...it is the same size as R9 about .08 of an oz lighter....in 380 and my brain cannot justify this.....probably will try and sell it.Dan......

I might be interested in that Pony, partner...especially if I had something you might want to swap for...!...? Or...if it is still around in a week or so when a client or two of mine pays off a monthly...!...I could see Ponying up for it then, hee, hee, especially if I had a pic or two of the specimen to urge me on, see. Mind you...I'm not asking you to hold the gun for me at this stage - just please keep me posted on things in the days ahead as they relate and so will I.
BTW - I'm still hot for a Pocket - 9...will have my nose to the ground for the right deal at the right time.
If you end up parting with the Pocket Light...what's your next move...?...TW<<
You see, when I grow up I now want to be just like Newt and have a nice collection small Colts. Nothing fancy, mind you. Just enough Pocket Colts to be able and go out on a sunny day...line them up...and have my own periodic shoot off to see what feels the best to shoot and carry for a while.
If anything comes

LOL! TW, I will try to get you some pics of the Colts. ;D

>>Newt (my new best friend and Pocket Colt Guru)...
I was just looking at a bunch of little Colts on Gunsamerica.com and noticed for the first time that the Mustang Pocketlite was made of Stainless Steel - ?? Sooooo...what's the difference between the Mustang and Mustang Pocketlite...as in weight diffs and material diffs...??...TW/Confused but learning<<
-
Mustang Pony Pocketlite is aluminum body and s/s top .weighs 12oz, just under the R9.....and yes i will probably be selling it.
-
When Colt uses the "pocketlite" reference its got the alloy frame instead of steel. 8)
-
I own a couple of P9's and just recently purchased my third. I find them easier to shoot than my R9 and actually prefer the slightly larger size ...
... Last time I spoke to Eric (which was nearly a year ago), I suggested that Rohrbaugh make a "beefed up" version of the R9 which is along the size and shape of the P9.
-
I took my pony pocketlite to the range fore the first time, I fed it silvertips, hydrashock, magsafe and ball ammo and it did not even belch, groups at 15feet were touching,,,,,,,,,I think this is a fantastic gun, and with 380 "magsafe" 60 grain bullet 1500 ft ps 300 lbs,it is a potent weapon comparible to my R9.......I am going to have a meltdown package, and all new Wolf springs have been added,,,,,,,,I have seen the results of a pistolsmith in Florida.....(Showgun) who does outrageous work . Now do I sell the "R9"/?????geminidan
-
No, don't sell the R9. Remember the R9 is a 9mm. Even with a few P9's, I still won't part with my R9.
-
But the 380 is the same size and the "magsafe" makes it an equal.Geminidan,, ps.I have a p9 also with s/d rod, wolf springs, tuned by the factory, wnite sights, which is probably going to be sold.
-
Two points:
1.) I'm not really sure that magsafes are as effective as they claim to be. Unless there are some reports out there that I am unaware of (and that is VERY possible), Dr. Fackler doesn't think too highly of them and his findings when it comes to 'stopping power' are based on medical knowledge.
But even if they are as effective as they claim to be, and they bring the effectiveness of a .380 into the same class as a 9mm; then it stands to reason that magsafe 9mm's will push the effectvieness of the R9 into an upper class as well.
2.) Depending on when you are going to sell the P9 in realtion to my cash reserve (I'm semi-retired and do part-time consulting on the side so my flow of income isn't always steady -- if I just made a gun purchase, I'll be tapped out for a few months but if I'm getting ready to make a gun purchase, I'll have money on hand), and how much you want for it, I might be interested in taking it off your hands. Please keep me in mind. As I said, I just picked up a third P9 and depending on the quality of the gun, I wouldn't hesitate in getting a fourth one down the road.
-
I have been carrying "magsafe" since I moved to Florida in 1991,I carried my 32 seecamp with magsafe, I am a former NYPD and I do believe in magsafe, and can attest to it..............My P9 is almost new.........with second skin wrapped around grips.......this is a suede like skin that is cut to form around the grips, the wetter your hands the better they stick,,,,,,,,,I have at least 200 rounds thru it..........As far as the R9 seems to be more around, because it seems there have been a few used ones for sale and no interest on this site........after the pony comes back from it's "meltdown" I will make a decision???Geminidan
-
All I'm saying is that if the .380 magsafes are as effective as you say, then the 9mm magsafes will be even more effective.
Anyway -- neither here nor there but if you decide to sell the P9, please give me first crack at it.
-
I will let you know !!! any idea of what $$$.
-
Put me 2 nd in line!
I love my R9 and want to get a R9S where the slide was actually marked R9S (yeah there are some out there I hear) but I would LOVE to have a P9 as well.
I will no longer carry a .380, it just does not have the power needed for someplace like Michigan where we get thick leather winter coats.
For pistols all I will own from now on is 9 mm (primary choice) .45 and .357. I am also looking for a Glock 26
I will let you know !!! any idea of what $$$.
-
no problem , I will list it when I decide to sell it...........Geminidan
