What are the thoughts of the 380 Seecamp?
-
I only know that I want one.

Richard
How long have you been on a wait list?
-
As I recall, I put my name on the waiting list about two years ago.

Sounds like when I ordered my first .32 LWS from the factory!! ;)
I would love a .380 ;D Same size as the .32.. 8)
Just seems like a nice caliber in a really small pkg. ;D

I have one on order an I can't wait to receive it. I already have a .32 and it is a little jewel. I bought a NAA Guardian in .380 until The Seecamp gets here and it is fine. A friend who is a gunsmith did a little fine tuning on it for me and it's a super pocket gun, but still not in the same category as the Seecamp. I also have a Keltec P3AT 380 which is good and also very light for Concealed carry. But I think they'll all be replaced when the .380 Seecamp gets here. Should be soon. ( I hope!) When you get the best, you can't do better. And we all know what I think of the R-9s, which I hope will be here this week.

Tom - tell me it isn't so before I get mine.

I like the idea of a .380 that size. I will probably add one to my collection.

Could someone please comment about the recoil of the Seecamp .380 and .32, when compared to the Rohrbaugh R9?
Bill
-
Bill,
I'd say it is all realitive.
Yes, the 32 has a bit of a sharp recoil to it, and I doubt that a novice would find it enjoyable to shoot. However, after time, you adjust, and become acustomed to the sharp recoil.
I should also state that sharp may even be to harsh a word to describe the felt recoil of the tiny pocket gun.
Next up, the LWS-380, yep, I have one, but have not fired it yet, but was told no big deal for a seasoned shooter. This comment came from my friend that owns both the LWS-32, and LWS-380.
I do own a R9, and shot that side by side with my LWS-32.
I experianced zero problems with the recoil. Never entered my mind.
That's another thing, concentrate on all your basics, and don't worry about the recoil. I think this is where "Dry Firing" as practice is very helpful.
That said, I still would not want to put several hundred rounds through each gun at the range in one day.Nor do I go out and shoot two hundred rounds of trap in the same day anymore, after the first two sessions, it hurts.
-
chameleon, thanks for the remarks about recoil. They were very appreciated.
I've concluded that tiny pistols have recoil. :)
The Seecamps are looking very nice! I was just curious if they kicked some.
It was just a fluke that my single bit of arthritis happens to be in the shooting hand, so I'm still looking for ways to circumvent the problem.
Now we have two strips of abrasive tape on the R9S handle, combined with a S&W shooting glove, to try out at the next shooting session.
Chances are that will make a good improvement.
Thanks again,
Bill

I've had the .380 for about a year, and put around 250 rounds through it. I believe I could shoot the .32 all day without a problem, but I want to stop shooting the .380 after 40 rounds or so when my trigger finger starts to show a dent where the trigger guard hits it on recoil.
I recommend getting both the .32 and the .380 if you can; put a lot of rounds through the .32 to develop familiarity and skill, and shoot the .380 enough to get accustomed to the heavier recoil.

Thanks, Ubik380.
This may require looking into the gun budget. :)

I've been a fan of Seecamps since I first heard about them, and Larry's products have gotten a major chunk of my personal "defence budget". I'm hoping to get a look at his new digs after he moves into the new shop. And they make great gifts! ;D
-
Ubik380,
If giving Seecamps as gifts makes you happy may I suggest that Christmas is coming and that I'd be very grateful.
Please just PM me and let me know where I should have an FFL sent.
Thank you in advance!

I pretty much limit carry now to pocketing my R9S or my Seecamp .32. I have a Seecamp .380 on order and it will replace my Seecamp .32 when it arrives.
-
Murray,
I concur!!! ;)
I do want a .380 Seecamp too...
I may have enough pups,but not for sure yet!! ;D 8) :o

Dave, Sandi doesn't know as of the other day when she will be able to ship me some. Just hang in there, we'll get them.

Guys - besides my two R9s - I hate to admit this but I have four LWS.32s (1 CA edition, rest regular). Have a LWS.380 on order from Tom Watson that I am highly looking forward to.
You're my man Tom - if anyone can break Sandi down you can - just kidding - she is a wonderful person.
I either carry the R9 or the Seecamp - alot depends on what pants I'm wearing.
-
Tom,
I hope Sandi sends a bunch to you.
(for purely selfish reasons ;D)

Guys, she will do the best that she can. Larry just needs to make more.

Tom, Guess I was lucky to get mine when I did.
-
Dick, yes you are lucky

I have a Seecamp .380 which I acquired six or seven months ago. I guess I was lucky, as I was browsing Gunbroker, found a nib one, and bought it for a very good price. Had been looking for one for all of two days.
Didn't shoot it for a while, but when I did I had no malfunctions with Hydra Shok ammo. I did get the devil beat out of my trigger finger, but not quite as much as I do with my R9.
Anyway, I posted a brief comparison a while back, but to reiterate, I really like the Seecamp. So much so that I just got a new .32
These little guns are just so well made and ooz quality. A real pleasure just to hold. The Seecamp is definitely easier to take down and reassemble than the R9.
Now, as far as the .380 Seecamp vs the R9, it is a difficult comparison. The Seecamp is somewhat smaller and easier to carry in a front pocket holster. The R9 is chambered for the 9mm luger. I will be receiving a pocket holster for my R9 from RJ Hedley soon, so will see how the package works for me.
I feel that both are really fine pistols.
Edited - I just got the R9 out of the safe and compared it to my Seecamp .380, and there is actually less difference in size than I originally recalled. The Seecamp still feels like a better quality pistol, but not by a whole lot. Just the fit and all stainless construction make it feel like a little jewel.
-
I just saw a seecamp .380 at a local gun shop for
:o $1000+ :o. I knew this gun would be a bit pricey and that this place is a bit high on their prices in the first place, but wow! Is this what the seecamps are going for?
-
Retail is 800.00 ballpark if I remember correctly...
As anything else-It's what yer willing to pay I guess.. ;)
I am in the process of ordering a Custom Ser. # LWS .380 thru the factory.. ;D
I did say earlier that I WANTED one!! ;D
I also have a couple of the LWS .32s..
Pups and Seecamps..The "addiction" continues... 8) 8)

Perhaps I was fortunate to come upon the liststing for the LWS 380 when I did, but it was on Gunbroker, and the buy now price was $750.00. I bought the gun face to face with the seller. It was new and completely sealed in the box. The gun was on the auction site for several days before I purchased it. These are the kind of deals that I only hear about. I am glad that I finally got one.

There was a LWS.380 at a gunshop in Janauary that I was given a heads up on. I have one on order from Tom Watson and figured two would be nice. When I called the shop they said it has been sitting there for three months for $750 and no takers. Well I road two hours to get there and someone walked in and bought it before I got there. Thats ok - I still have Tom.
I remember when Seecamp LWS .32s where in demand and had a two year wait. There was some dealers who were trying there best to blow up the price way over retail. When I see a price way over what I consider a good profit my business there stops.
-
I thought that price seemed excessive, but that shop is known to overprice their firearms. I guess I should take a look at a seecamp one of these days, as I have never actually handled one. They do look nice though.

You can't beat a Seecamp in a RJ pocket holster. For me it depends on the pants. If the material is light weight I find the Seecamp works better many times.
