Title: Buy Seecamp .32
Post by: Michigunner on May 22, 2006, 08:39:35 PM
Guns Galore in Michigan has the new Seecamp .32 for $415, and I'm tempted to buy one.

Do you think it is worthwhile to drop down to something with such low energy?

Would it make the assailant madder than a hornet?

Bill:

Go for it.  Until Joyce "requisitioned" my Seecamp .32 with its old-ivory grips, I referred to it as my "Dress Blue Sunday Gun."  They are wonderful pocket pistols which have achieved "cult-gun" status.

I've posted this photo before, but here it is again -- just to whet your appetite:

As for the efficacy of the .32 ACP cartridge, many police and military units in Europe relied upon it for years.  With a well-placed double tap, the .32 ACP can truly be "sufficient unto the task at hand."   8)

Thanks very much, Richard.  I'm seriously thinking about it.

After doing a little research here, I noticed that Dave recommended a Beretta Tomcat in one post.  That has the tip-up barrel.

At first glance, it looked like the safety was down for firing, like my HK UPS 45.  I like moving between systems with a sense of familiarity.

I'm calling our nearby dealer in the morning and see if he has the small Seecamp 32 in stock, or can get one soon.

I sent an email to Tom, but did not hear from him.  I hope he is OK.

Bill

I believe the Tomcat I recommended was for someone looking for a gun for his wife.  It is much bigger than a Seecamp.

Bill - what do I think of Seecamp - well I have four LWS.32a - one California Edition.   Also have a LWS.380 on order though Tom.

Speaking of Tom - where is he?  Haven't heard from him for awhile.  Computer problems again?

The .32 ACP is not bad - would not want to be shot by one.  Go to the Seecamp Forum for some research.  Larry Seecamp participates.  http://seecamp.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl/YaBB.pl

For pocket carry it is easy.  For light weight pants I use a RJ back pocket - don't even know it is there.  Otherwise I may use an RJ Frontpocket.

Dave,

What .32 ammo do you prefer for the Seecamp?

Never mind about the ammo.

I remember that Larry Seecamp makes the recommendations.

Just forgot.

Bill - I have a lot of the old Winchester Silvertips - Larry at the moment doesn't recommend the new silvertipd but some have had luck with them.

Otherwise use the Gold Dots.

I LOVE my Seecamp. Its the .380 version. I was also suprised at its reliability. It feeds Glaser, Corbon +Ps, Hydrashocks, Starfires, and of course the silvertips. I was told the .32 cal however is not as reliable with ANYTHING but silvertips. But..the .380 has a recoil spring that needs to be changed out more frequently. Guess thats the price you pay for the added "punch". Ill say this much, How Larry seecamp made the LWS .380 the same size as the .32 baffles me, but he did.

....  with the science of Metallurgy and a Superior Casting House, the .380 Caliber came into being..  The new casting was carried over to the .32 Cal as well, after the 31000 serial number..

Thank you, Sir.

A lot of time and expense had gone into that "Dress Blue Sunday Gun."  I had no idea that "Herself" would rummage through my gunsafe when I told her that I would give her any handgun she wanted if she would move up from the NAA MiniMag she had been using as her primary CCW.

However, any time at all, I'll take a woman who prefers a fine handgun over a so-called "precious stone."   8)

Hi Richard,

I wish my wife would take a liking to my David Clay customized Kel-Tec P-32, which is the only mousegun I know of above .22 and .25 that is super pleasant to shoot.  Then, with her Springfield XD9 4" and something in between, she'd be set.

Hi Mountainman,

I am also curious about Tom.  I sent him an Email last week and haven't received any response.

It's good to see you posting again.  Are you still pursuing your graduate studies?  I seem to recall that you were intending to obtain an advanced degree.

Well, the dealer did not have a Seecamp .32.

Something had to be done without delay, so I bought a brand new S&W 642 revolver.

I've been bouncing through the house all morning, proud as can be.

Yes, that is it, Richard.  It is very small.  Right now I don't even know it's in the pocket.

I prefer having a hammer to pull back, but that would result in some serious snagging.

The 642-2 seems to be very popular with the wheelgun people.

Thanks for your kind remarks.  Naturally, I'm very proud.

Jumping from the Seecamp to the S&W was a big jump - but you made a nice decision and are very happy - that is what counts.  Maybe we can get you into a Seecamp someday.  See Tom when you are ready - Tom has been selling Seecamps for many years.

My version of your S&W with a hammer.

All I can say is: Wow!  That's what I really wanted, but the hammer was sure to cause problems in the front pocket, so I went with the goofy looking one.    :D

I ordered Robert Mika's holster just to get up and going.

Long time ago, I had the old Military & Police .38 Special.  They have come a long way since then.

Thanks for the great picture, Dave.

Hi Richard,

All going well, I will begin my first class towards my MS in electrical engineering towards the end of June.  Actually, the class is one of 4 prerequisites I have to take before applying to the MS program, but they already have my transcripts, recommendations, etc., and I have already been told that if I do well in the prerequisites, getting in will not be a problem.  I will take one evening class per 10-week quarter, so it will be slow going.  My firm needs patent lawyers with EE degrees, so they are very happy about my doing this.

I heard from Tom today.

Bill - if I were going to carry the S&W in my pocket I would have chosen the same one you did without the hammer.

BiillinPittsburgh - (although I think I remember you saying you were not in Pittsburgh anymore).  What University are you taking your classes in?

Hi MountainMan,

I will take classes at Drexel.

I definitely didn't think too far ahead when I picked my user name.

The LWS380 is a fine little .380 pistol.  Mine rides with me in Hedley leather frequently.

"Oldgranpa" and I did a little wetpack testing with it last week.  I was primarily interested in the performance with the Corbon DPX ammo.

You can see the results here:

http://seecamp.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl/YaBB.pl?board=ammo;action=display;num=1148012398

The DPX performed much better than I expected out of such a small short barrel....  10 inches and full expansion!

"oldgranpa" had me test some other loads through it as seen here:

http://www.ktrange.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5183

After the test, I feel more comfortable relying upon the Seecamp for self defense purposes.  Yes, the LWS380 is expensive -- but if you can locate one, it is worth every penny.

That is just a great report!  Thank you very much.

You are a fine gentlemen who deserves to have an airplane.  Notice that little tiny bit of jealousy.   :)

Now, if we could only get Corbon to load up a standard pressure 9mm DPX for the R9 -- I'd be a very happy man (unless the Rohrbaugh brothers would say the 9mm+P DPX was ok in moderation)...

Fly:

Great report.  Thank you!

I've been carrying Cor-Bon's 90gr JHP in my 380s and haven't yet tried the 80gr DPX load.  I note that Cor-Bon advertises the same velocity and energy stats for both cartridges (1050fps & 220ft/lbs).  I would be interested in your thoughts on the comparative efficacy of the two rounds out of a short-barrelled pocket pistol such as the Seecamp or Guardian.

Thanks again for the excellent report.

:) Interesting and FUN too! :) I may have to start saving newspaper! My .380 Seecamp seems to digest about anything, SXTs included, so I guess Im lucky. Keep in mind though Fly an Scuba, Being in the medical field Im sure you've witnessed a few autopsys with gunshot wounds. Often bullets will not expand or fragment after the flesh has already expierianced trauma from an expanding or fragmenting bullet. The reason is thier is minimal resistance left for the remaining incoming rounds to function in.  As such, the rounds you recovered unexpanded are probably duplicating as nearly as possible those introduced in to living tissue.

Let me say something about the Seecamp - love the gun.

Was out all day yesterday - even went to see "The Da Vinci Code".  It was a hot day.  Had on a pair of light weight pants with the Seecamp in a RJ backpocket holster.  Didn't even know it was there most of the time.

I bought an LWS .32 from Tom awhile ago. He was a good guy to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again or to recommend him to anyone else.
As for the Seecamp, I love it. It has worked flawlessly and is so small and easy to carry, it even makes the R9 seem large in comparison. I don't really feel under gunned with .32acp, and there is virtually no recoil at all. I may get the .380 version eventually. It really is a marvel that the Seecamp is so much smaller than the NAA .380.
Title: Re: Buy Seecamp .32

Harry

I agree about not feeling undergunned with the LWS.32.  I still have a lot of the old silvertips.  I believe there was a report that showed the .32 silvertip had a one shot stop in actual shootings equal to the .45 ACP hardball.

With the LWS.32 you can dress as you please and the Seecamp dissappears into the pocket.  This many times is better than having to dress around the gun - at least it is for me.

Still haven't figured out how to comfortably carry my  new Kimber Compact 1911 without having to wear a jacket, vest, or buy shirts that I can wear out.  Even with that it seems the Kimber would not be comfortable wearing IWB - but my brother has one and does so all the time.

No Tom - haven't shot the Kimber yet - need to get some .45 ACP in FMJ - then go somewhere to test it out.  With leaves out on the property now it is too thick in the woods.
