I heard George Kelgren once say that when people copy his firearm designs -- it is the highest compliment...
Well, Ruger has done just that:
http://www.ruger.com/LCP/
It has a slide stop -- I'll be buying one...
-
Interesting looking Kel-Ger,er..Ru-Tec.. ;D
It is about time Ruger did something in the pocket pistol arena!! ;)
-
Has this been released yet?
-
I will pass.
It is a .380, it is plastic and it is butt ugly.

If they give it a stainless slide, I find a home for it :)
Does it have a repeat striker capability?
-
I like the looks. It will replace my p3at, especially if a stainless slide comes around.
-
Here is a review I just watched, looks good!

I handled one at the SHOT Show.
It does not have repeat strike capability--works just like the P-3AT.
The slide stop is just hold open device. In other words, you can pull the slide back and push up the stop and hold the gun open. However, it does not lock back on an empty mag. Therefore--the increased functionality over the P-3AT is minimal.
No word on a stainless model.
The guns are supposed to start shipping in March.
I will have one soon for T&E for Concealed Carry Magazine.

My LCP is here... ;)
Photos later. Very similar to a P-3AT, but with a nicer fit and finish.
-
COOL, I look forward to reading your report!

The LCP IMO is what the p3at should have been. For $279 it is a very nice pocket gun. Two of them have made it into the family. My wife's LCP has just shy of 400 rounds through it with only 1 "problem" round. Not to bad. With that being said it's nearly the same size as my R9 and the only time I could ever forsee it taking the Rohrbaughs spot would be ATV'ing when I know i'll get wet and muddy.

400 rounds of 380, what kind of ammo are you using, have you tried any defensive rounds like MagSafe or snything to see how they feed??? and is the guide rod metal??? tx...Dan
-
wwb, gold dots, golden sabers, some reloads, little bit of everything I guess. Yep the guide rod is metal, atleast it looks and feels that way.
-
so basicaly no problems feeding???? tx Dan

Mine works real good. The "gotta have the newest thing out" feeling for me has now moved to the release of the Kahr P380 in June. The LCP is nice though. I more than likley will sell one of my LCPs to when it gets time to pick up my P380.

I have the Ruger too.....150 rounds and NO MALFUNCTIONS at all. This is how the Keltec should have been made..and I would guess Ruger should be sued if Keltec copyrighted the P3AT. This is a lovely gun for mowing the lawn and having it in my pocket for the "dirty" jobs around the house. Times I would not dare harm my lovely Rohrbaugh.
The fit and finish is GREAT..great extraction..no pin walking..no double feeds... ok accuracy.
The only bad things are a very rough rifling in the barrel and the slide stop is NOT designed to lock back on the last round..ohhh ya and you can't re-strike without racking the slide.
I have 2 KELTECS and they BOTH are a POS..many FTE..pin walking ect. The one I made work was traded off..and the hopeless one was sent back to be "fixed" ::) (hope they send me a RUGER instead)
I give it a great buy and KELTEC should be run out of business by a better design of their own gun...sad really
gun---who ain't real thrilled with a .380--- :-/
-
The Kel-Tec P3AT that I've shot has been flawless quite accurate considering......Kel-Tec and Ruger are in on this one together, no sueing going on. ;)
Welcome to the Forums.....I'm new, too, but have really enjoyed the place.....have fun. :)
-
Dawkind,
Do you have info on that? Are you suggesting a license of the design by K-T to Ruger?
-
I would like to know also. Everything I have heard is just the opposite.
-
ya I even heard scuttle-butt that they were sueing Ruger and Ruger was not making anymore LCP for now......again.. no sources..just poop house rumor
gun---who appreciates a good poop as he ages---

Being connected to a Company in the business, Kel-Tec, had and has no patents on the gun, there was even a little dealer in Orlando trying to get his Arab hands on building the gun away from Kel-tec..but it was too expensive. Ruger has been playing with this for over two years,,,, They cannot be sued because again there is no Patent, and the gun is a little bigger, this is only what I was told, mine should arrive shortly, I have a 32 keltec that has been cleaned up, with new wolf guide rod and springs, throated and shoots heavy loads all day long...regards Dan
-
I also have one, this is the best $300 that I have spent.
I absolutely love it.
-
Man I have been on a waiting list at my local dealer for 3 weeks now. I really am itching to get my hands on it and see what all the hype is about! :)
-
I have it. L O V E it. 500 rds NOT ONE FTF FTE GREAT GUN.. So much better than my P3AT. I can hit the target with this.
Waiting for my first R-9 to arrive and give my wife the Ruger which I trust her life to. (Oh, and I like my wife)
P.S. I'll have some black carbon Fiber grips for sale soon.

......Kel-Tec and Ruger are in on this one together, no sueing going on.
I'm mistaken.....I mis-read an article and did not get the gist of the story. I'm sorry to have stated wrong info. :-[
I do agree that if Ruger just took the design, patented, copyrighted or not.....it's still pretty $hitty of them and makes me wonder about Ruger now that Bill is gone.
-
Thing is, Bill Ruger didn't care much for us civilians carrying guns. I am encouraged by their recent move toward CCW guns, but I wish I knew the whole story on the LCP.
I spoke to the gun's designer at the SHOT Show and he seemed to deny any unusual resemblance. ;)

Yeah, thank him for that 10rd. magazine thing that was so popular for too long.
-
I just shot a LCP yesterday on my lunch, and then pulled out my R9 and shot a few rounds. The R9 doesn't have much more recoil and actually feels much more substantial even though it's not much wider at all. A friend of mine is going to buy one based on cost, but he LOVED my Rohrbaugh.
Again, with my large hands that little LCP would be nice to have in case of emergency but definitely not my choice at the range.

Even if the P3AT wasn't patented... maybe something based on trade dress? Ruger has blatently stolen, didn't even make any improvements. There's usually not enough money in the gun industry, to justify any major law suits, but, IMO Ruger's behavior in this is down right revolting.
-
I agree with dawkind on the P3AT as being reliable and
surprisingly accurate and I was one of the most skeptical
because of the flimsy looks of it.
