Title: H&K P2000sk V3  Any thoughts?
Post by: Laserlips on July 04, 2009, 11:14:35 AM
Hi folks,

I'm "planning" on the purchase of a new HK P2000sk V3 shortly.  Any opinions, or comments from folks with experience with this pistol?

I'm hoping to hold out for night sights, good or bad?

Thanks!

Jesse

I've never shot one, much less held one.  Sure would like to do both - being an HK fan.
Everything I have read on the gun is positive.
Personally, I prefer night sights, at least on the front.  Being past 40 now, I really like the XS big dot with tritium insert for carry type pistols.  Really quick pick up for those fast shots, but definitely not a 25 yard sight.

just bought a P2000V3 (not the SK) last week--haven't had a chance to fire it yet.  Made really well (not as nice as my R9s but still very nice) I didn't get the SK because I'm mainly going to be using it at the range and as home defense (but it was a really hard decision not to go with the sk-it's a really nice pistol!)
Factory night sites are about $100 extra --my dealer also charges $100/set installed so it didn't matter whether they came from the factory like that or not--all the ones in my area didn't have them from the factory
Also--if you wern't aware, the regular p2000 magazines also fit the SK and HK sells an "xgrip" extension (about $15) that covers the extra magazine length and makes the grip length very similar to the regular P2000---you can have the best of both worlds--both the short grip of the sk for carry and the longer grip of the regular P2000 for range time
I debated between the LEM and V3 versions and chose the V3 (traditional DA/SA)  I didn't like the feel of the LEM trigger but a LOT of other folks do---can't go wrong with either version

good luck

jetboater:

Thanks for the info...  I'm going with the SK in V3 (TDA) because I'm an old guy and that's the trigger setup I've used for decades on my pistols/revolvers and I feel most comfortable with it over any other..

I've read nothing but good things from folks who own these HK P2000's and P2000sk's so I feel good about buying one.

I'm going to my friend (and gun dealer) in the next day or so to try and run one down.  There are several on "Gunbroker" and the other online sites, but I prefer to give my business to my friend when all else is equal, or even "relatively" equal...

If his sources can't find one in a month or two I'll bite the bullet and buy online, but buying locally is my preference.

Thanks again and let us know how you like the way your P2000 shoots..

Best Wishes,

Jesse

The only negative I have heard about HK recently is a severe
lack of parts for all models. That situation could have changed
but might be worth a check.

Hi Tracker,

Well if they can find enough parts to put one new HK P2000sk V3 together that's all I need.. ;D

I don't think I've put more than 500rds through any pistol/revolver I've ever owned, and "so far" (knocking on wood here) I've been blessed with some very good firearms.

IF a new P2000sk V3 went "belly up" I believe they come with a lifetime warranty to the original owner, and I'll just ship the sucker back to them and they can take all the time they need to find replacement parts..

I've got 6 or 7 other very nice 9MM pistols, several of which are sub-compacts, one 45ACP (CS45) and 4 38cal. snubbies, and I'll just drag one of those suckers out for the duration..  :)

In fact I have an excellent S&W CS9 which has been absolutely reliable and more than self defense accurate(yeah, I hear the audience now going "boo, boo"), and actually I've had wonderful results with all of my 3rd gen Smith pistols..  I still have two P7's, and several other options for cc should my HK faulter..

But I do appreciate your "heads up" regarding the replacement parts question..  I've read for years that HK has crappy CS to civilian gun owners anyway, but I've also read where in the past year their CS to us "regular" folks has improved a great deal.

Hey, HK's aren't known to be problem prone, so maybe I'll get a one one and the shortage of replacement parts won't be an issue.

Thanks!

Jesse

I had a P2000sk with LEM trigger. I did not like the LEM trigger set up so I traded it off otherwise it was a fine pistol. I have many other HK pistols and consider them some of the best handguns made.
